The Identity organization is the foundational gateway to Uber’s ecosystem. We manage the core identity functions for millions of riders, drivers, earners, and merchants globally. Our mission is to provide a seamless, secure, and "invisible" identity experience across every Uber product, partner, and acquisition.

With a global footprint of 120+ engineers, we operate at a huge scale. As a Sr. Staff Engineer, you won't just be part of the team; you will be the technical conscience of our identity architecture, ensuring our stack—from mobile SDKs to high-throughput backend services—is resilient enough for the next decade of growth.

Your Impact

Long-Range Architectural Stewardship: You aren't just thinking about the next sprint. You are anticipating shifts in the identity landscape (e.g., Passkeys, Decentralized Identity, Zero Trust) 24+ months out, ensuring Uber’s modular architecture can pivot without massive rewrites.

The "Force Multiplier" Effect: You elevate the entire 120+ person organization. Whether through defining GenAI-driven fraud detection patterns or setting the standard for "Identity-as-Code," your designs reduce complexity and increase developer velocity across all of Uber Engineering.

Cross-Domain Influence: You are a primary bridge between Engineering, Product, and Legal/Compliance. You translate complex regulatory requirements (GDPR, DMA, etc.) into elegant technical solutions that don't compromise the user experience.

Operational Excellence at 1B+ Scale: You drive the reliability and performance standards for systems that handle hundreds of thousands of requests per second, ensuring five-nines availability for Uber’s most critical path.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

1. BS or equivalent in Computer Science, or related field. 12+ years full-time Software Engineering work experience.
2. Designing and building large scale distributed systems, including launching and migrating a large backend platform to 100's of millions of users.
3. Customer facing Platforms/SaaS serving 100's of millions of customers

---- Preferred Qualifications ----

1. Identity and access management experience
2. Experience working with 1B+ user systems or products
3. Integrations connecting systems between scaled tech driven companies
4. Lead projects spanning across large organizations

For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$267,000 per year - USD$297,000 per year.

You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan.
