Senior Strategy & Operations Manager, Marketplace (Retail)
About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and analytically driven Sr Operations Manager to join our Groceries and Retail business within the Global Marketplace team. This team partners closely with Product and Product Operations to ensure the marketplace runs efficiently and reliably at scale, balancing supply, demand, pricing, and delivery experience across a growing set of retail categories.
In this role, you will support the development and optimization of marketplace strategies for emerging retail verticals. You will play a key role in identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, and cost structure as these categories continue to scale globally.
You will act as a subject matter expert for marketplace performance, using data to uncover insights, diagnose root causes of operational challenges, and inform strategic decision-making. This is a highly analytical role that requires strong proficiency in SQL and experience working with large datasets to drive business impact.
You will collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Data Science, and Product Operations teams to support product launches, evaluate experiments, and ensure marketplace performance aligns with broader business objectives. You will also partner with regional teams to incorporate local nuances while maintaining global consistency and scalability.
What You’ll Do
- Own marketplace performance for specific Retail categories by analyzing supply-demand dynamics, pricing levers, and delivery experience to drive efficiency, reliability, and cost improvements
- Use SQL and large datasets to identify trends, uncover inefficiencies, and perform root cause analyses that inform strategic decisions and product direction
- Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Data Science to design, evaluate, and scale experiments (e.g., pricing strategies, batching logic, delivery timing), with a clear understanding of success metrics and tradeoffs
- Define, track, and operationalize key marketplace metrics (e.g., reliability, cost, conversion), building dashboards and frameworks to monitor performance and measure business impact
- Act as a subject matter expert on marketplace products within Global Operations, identifying opportunities for improvement and influencing product and operational roadmaps
- Support global product launches by ensuring marketplace performance aligns with business objectives, while partnering with regional teams to incorporate local nuances
- Translate complex data and analyses into clear, actionable insights and recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Basic Qualifications
- 4+ years in Operations, Product Management, Analytics or similar experience
- Proficiency in SQL and demonstrated experience in using data and analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Python, SQL, Excel) to derive actionable insights and influence product direction and decision makers
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in fast-paced, high-growth environments is a plus
- Strong communicator with the ability to articulate complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
- A strategic thinker who can identify and solve complex problems with data-backed solutions
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, navigate complex organizational structures to get things done, and influence without formal authority at all levels of the organization
- Be able to go deep into the details without losing sight of the bigger picture
- MBA or advanced degree is a plus
For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$131,000 per year - USD$145,500 per year.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$131,000 per year - USD$145,500 per year.
For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp.
