About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Program Manager and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Leader to establish and maintain an effective EHS program targeted to multi-partner fleet operations in the fast-evolving field of autonomous mobility and delivery at Uber. This role requires strong working knowledge of US federal, state, and local regulatory requirements for EHS, including OSHA’s multi-employer citation policy, and practical application of these requirements in an operational environment. This role would also require foundational knowledge of global EHS regulatory requirements to support Uber’s future fleet operation expansion. The successful candidate will have direct experience establishing effective EHS programs, embedding the programs across operations, and conducting regulatory compliance activities such as internal audits, vendor audits, and site inspections.

In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing fleet partner’s EHS programs, developing and implementing EHS programs for AV fleet operations, ensuring the relevant infrastructure and processes utilized in fleet operations comply with EHS related regulatory requirements and conforms to industry best practices and standards that have been adopted at Uber and by our partners. This role will establish EHS standards and associated requirements for Uber’s AM&D fleet partners operating on the Platform and conduct audits in accordance with Uber AM&D Safety Assurance program to ensure conformance with those standards and requirements. This role will involve strategy, program management, and partner engagement responsibilities with a strong focus on cross-functional collaboration.

What You’ll Do:

  1. Environmental, Health, and Safety Expertise: Serve as the subject matter expert on EHS related best practices and regulatory requirements, oversee fleet partner’s EHS programs, and implement and maintain comprehensive EHS programs for Uber AM&D fleet operations, including EHS related safety training program, and ensure alignment with local, state, and federal standards.
  2. Compliance and Auditing: Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, and support the Uber AM&D Safety team to conduct internal audits and fleet partner’s site inspections
  3. EHS Training: Develop and deliver relevant EHS trainings such as Hazardous Waste Management, Battery Safety including High Voltage and Battery Storage, Lockout/Tagout, etc. as appropriate and promote a positive safety reporting culture in alignment with Uber AM&D Safety Policy and Objectives
  4. Program Management: Manage EHS programs from inception to operations, ensuring adherence to timelines, key milestones, and strategic objectives. Serve as the primary point of contact for cross-functional teams and external partners on EHS matters.
  5. Cross-functional Leadership: Collaborate with many different skilled individuals across Uber, including fleet, legal, policy, safety operations, engineering, and regional operations teams.
  6. Partner Engagement: Work closely with Uber’s AV partners and fleet operators to understand their requirements for operations on the Uber platform and creatively problem solve for mutually successful outcomes.

Basic Qualifications

  1. Environmental, Health, and Safety Expertise: A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in an EHS role, with specific experience in establishing and managing EHS programs within operational environments such as manufacturing and production facilities, and overseeing EHS compliance in a multi-employer work site.
  2. Compliance, Auditing and EHS processes: Experience in conducting EHS compliance audits, such as internal audits, vendor audits, and site inspections, performing job hazard analyses, and incident investigations with the ability to translate findings into actionable business solutions.
  3. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational, Health, and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience in autonomous vehicle, automotive, or high-tech hardware industry.
  2. Program Management: Proven track record managing EHS programs, with experience leading cross-functional and cross-industry teams.
  3. Specific expertise in the safety and environmental aspects of high-voltage systems and electric vehicle charging infrastructure
  4. Experience supporting construction safety and new site build-outs
  5. Familiarity with ISO 45001 and 14001 management systems
  6. Familiarity with Safety Management System
  7. Professional certification such as OSHA 30, Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$131,000 per year - USD$145,500 per year.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$131,000 per year - USD$145,500 per year.

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$118,000 per year - USD$131,000 per year.

For Washington, DC-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$131,000 per year - USD$145,500 per year.

For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp.
