Engineering Manager II – Python Platform, Developer Platform
About the role
We’re looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Engineering Manager to lead Uber’s Python Platform team within Developer Platform. This team owns the foundations of the Python developer experience at Uber, enabling thousands of engineers to write, test, and ship high-quality Python code with confidence and consistency.
The mission of the Developer Platform org is to empower engineers at Uber to build reliable, scalable software—efficiently and without friction. The Python Platform team plays a critical role in that mission by building language-specific tools, libraries, and infrastructure for Uber’s Python ecosystem.
What you’ll do
- Define and execute the long-term technical and organizational strategy for Python Platform at Uber.
- Lead and grow a high-performing team of engineers focused on enabling best-in-class Python development.
- Drive the evolution of core Python tooling, including dependency management, testing frameworks, code quality, and build/test infrastructure.
- Partner with machine learning, infra, security, and product teams to align platform investments with broader company goals.
- Ensure the Python development experience is secure, scalable, performant, and delightful for engineers across Uber.
- Foster a strong culture of engineering excellence, mentorship, and collaboration.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of industry experience, including 2+ years of engineering management experience.
- Strong backend or infrastructure engineering background, ideally with experience in Python.
- Experience working on developer-facing systems, tools, or platforms.
- Proven ability to lead teams building scalable internal platforms and services.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions and influence without authority.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep familiarity with the Python ecosystem (e.g., packaging, virtual environments, testing tools).
- Experience working on or with developer platform teams at scale.
- Machine learning or data science experience
- Exposure to Bazel, Buildkite, or other build/test/deploy frameworks.
- Contributions to open source or leadership in developer tooling communities.
