Sr. Staff Engineer, Backend - Delivery

About the Role

As a Senior Staff Engineer for Delivery (Grocery & Retail), you are a cornerstone of Uber's first development center in LATAM. You influence business and technology decisions across multiple projects to provide a best-in-class experience for earners, brands, and customers.

What You’ll Do

• Technical Strategy: Drive the development of backend services and infrastructure platforms used across the global Delivery org.
• Innovation & Execution: Lead efforts in advanced telematics and real-time data processing to improve platform safety and efficiency.
• Mentorship & Culture: Serve as a humble teacher and mentor to a growing regional team on uniquely ambitious projects.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience: 12+ years of experience delivering massive-scale distributed systems.
• Technical Depth: Expert-level understanding of distributed theory (CAP theorem, Paxos/Raft) and technical transformations.
• Education: BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Open Source: Significant contributions to major open-source infrastructure or distributed systems projects.
• Domain Expertise: Deep vertical expertise in FinTech or Security at a global "Big Tech" scale.
• Architectural Migration: Experience migrating monolithic architectures to modular or cell-based paradigms.
