Deployment Manager, Autonomous Vehicle Infrastructure
About the Role
At Uber, we’re committed to accelerating the transition to autonomous vehicles. The Global AV Infrastructure team plays a pivotal role in expanding infrastructure access to support Uber’s ambitious autonomous and electrification goals. We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Deployment Manager to lead the development, design, and site readiness of charging and maintenance infrastructure for autonomous vehicles.
In this multifaceted role, you will be responsible for driving projects from early-stage site identification and acquisition through design, permitting, utility coordination, contractor selection, construction, and handoff to operations teams. This role will focus on fast-charging stations and maintenance depots in core city centers across the Middle East.
The ideal candidate brings experience in real estate development, infrastructure deployment, design and construction management, and contract negotiation, along with strong organizational and communication skills.
What You'll Do
- Develop and manage a pipeline of potential new charging and depot sites in alignment with Uber’s AV infrastructure strategy.
- Lead projects from site identification and acquisition through conceptual design, permitting, utility upgrades, contractor selection, and project handoff.
- Lead negotiations with landlords, property owners, and public/private partners for leases, purchase agreements, and other site-related contracts.
- Conduct and refine comprehensive site due diligence, including zoning, utility access, permitting requirements, and financial feasibility.
- Partner with attorneys and internal stakeholders to draft, negotiate, and execute site agreements.
- Collaborate with design, engineering, and construction teams to evaluate installation costs, optimize site layouts, and ensure readiness for deployment.
- Develop EV charging station and depot plans that align with internal site specifications, utility standards, and AHJ requirements.
- Work closely with general contractors, utilities, and cross-functional partners to drive efficient project execution and compliance with negotiated agreements.
- Proactively identify and resolve site, design, permitting, and construction-related challenges to maintain project timelines and budgets.
What You'll Have
- 5+ years of experience in infrastructure deployment, real estate development, design management, construction management, or related fields.
- Proven track record of managing end-to-end infrastructure projects, including site acquisition, design, permitting, contractor selection, and project execution.
- Experience negotiating contracts, leases, purchase agreements, or other site-related agreements.
- Strong understanding of permitting, utility planning, real estate development, and construction processes.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively across complex stakeholder groups.
- Proficiency with design and project management tools such as Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Procore, Adobe Creative Suite, SolidWorks, or similar platforms.
- Ability to interpret and apply AC and DC power systems, including transformers, circuit protection, and single-line electrical and mechanical diagrams.
- Bachelor’s degree in design, civil or electrical engineering, construction management, real estate, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Ability to travel frequently, up to 30% within the Middle East.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in infrastructure deployment, design management, construction management, real estate development, or related fields.
- Experience developing and deploying fast-charging EV infrastructure, maintenance depots, or transportation/mobility infrastructure.
- Familiarity with EV charging infrastructure, utility coordination, EV policy, or autonomous vehicle technologies.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, schedules, RFIs, contracts, and applicable codes; electrical contractor experience is a plus.
- Experience managing 20+ concurrent projects with complex internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with executives, landlords, utility partners, city officials, contractors, and technical teams.
- Self-starter who is highly organized, motivated, and able to work independently in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
