About the Role
The Insurance Engineering team builds and maintains critical services and tools for Uber's Insurance needs. The team is responsible for processing millions of dollars worth of claims every year. We also focus on automating and optimizing insurance claims processing and save millions, that directly impact Uber's bottom line. We are a high impact team that is critical for Uber's day to day operations. We also have a pipeline of innovative products and tech that will take us to the next level and be one of the leaders in the InsureTech space.
We are looking for talented engineers who will lead one or more critical projects and apply fresh ideas to improve products and tech for Insurance at Uber. This role is a great opportunity to both grow your technical skills and ship highly impactful products.

- Work closely with stakeholders to understand business requirements and build cross-functional solutions that impact all Insurance related business needs
- Contribute to the technical roadmap by developing innovative features and solving complex problems.
- Provide technical expertise and input to shape the vision for your area, while executing on product requirements.
- Design and collaborate with multiple partners, both internal and external to develop and maintain critical services and tools
- Drive and improve the scalability, reliability and efficiency of critical systems
---- Basic Qualifications ----
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field, with 5+ years of full-time engineering experience.
- Experience in hands-on software development with thoughtfulness of scale, latency and distributed architecture.
- Highly efficient coding in Golang, Java or any similar languages.
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality software and contributing to impactful projects.
- Ability to execute on a product roadmap and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- English proficiency
- Algorithm & Data Structures fundamentals.
---- Preferred Qualifications ----
- Full-stack skills being able to contribute across frontend and backend stack as needed.
- Hands-on experience with streaming and real-time data pipelines (e.g., Kafka-like systems, stream processing frameworks).
- Exposure to machine learning systems in production, including model integration, feature pipelines, or ML-powered decision systems.
- Exposure to GenAI (LLMs, Agentic systems)
- Strong background in scalability engineering, data consistency, and system observability.
- Track record of influencing architecture and technical direction across multiple teams.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$232,000 per year - USD$258,000 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$232,000 per year - USD$258,000 per year.
For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
