About the Role
Core Security Engineering’s mission is to make the Uber production environment secure by default and provide industry leading products and services to all Uber's production services and infrastructure. We are focused on building both security primitives and end users products that help Uber engineers to secure their service, build trust, and advance security to enable our global business.
We are responsible for providing and managing systems, services, and libraries to provide access management, and enforcement at scale. The scope spans across multiple verticals like service-to-service authentication/authorization, employee to system auth, customer auth.
You’ll work on critical distributed services at a massive scale crafted with the best security practices at the forefront. You’ll be accountable for designing and implementing the AI/ML based solutions to continuously scale and operate such foundational security services.

The Software Engineer 2 will be a key contributor to the Access Management team, focusing on enhancing security, scalability, and developer experience.
- Design and Implement Core Services: Design, develop, and maintain highly available, fault-tolerant services that handle core Access Management functions.
- Drive SDLC Excellence: Champion and apply best practices throughout the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). This includes enforcing rigorous coding standards, performing high-quality code reviews, and ensuring optimal build and testing processes.
- Automation and Efficiency: Develop new tooling, scripts, and automation workflows to improve the efficiency of our access granting processes and reduce manual operational toil.
- Operational Ownership: Take ownership of the operational health of production systems, including monitoring, alerting, debugging, and performing root cause analysis on access-related incidents in a timely manner.
- Documentation and Guidance: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, acting as a subject matter expert to provide guidance and consultation to engineering teams on Access Management best practices and platform usage.
---- Basic Qualifications ----
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science or equivalent
- 3+ years of full SDLC experience, including best practices in development (coding, reviews, source control), testing, and deployment/operations.
- Deep understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, system design, and architecture.
---- Preferred Qualifications ----
- Knowledge of cybersecurity concepts, tools, and best practices. Certifications in Security is a plus
- Experience with AI/ML technologies / frameworks and incorporating them into production systems
- Experience with SQL, Kafka and databases (including Spark, Hive, SQL, No-SQL etc)
- Experience with modern development practices (e.g., CI/CD, microservices, cloud platforms like AWS/GCP).
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$171,000 per year - USD$190,000 per year.
You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan.
