Agentic Systems Engineer
About the Role
We are looking for a Agentic Systems Engineer for Uber's Developer Platform. This team is in the middle of a paradigm shift. The industry moved from text editors to IDEs. We're now moving from
IDEs to Agentic Dev Environments (ADEs), where AI agents are first-class participants in the software development lifecycle.
The AI Foundations & Developer Experience (AIFX) team is building the infrastructure that makes this shift real.
We own:
- The agent runtime. Claude Code and Minions, our background agent orchestration system for autonomous code generation.
- The MCP platform layer. Giving agents structured access to Uber's tools, data, and developer lifecycle.
- The Skill Marketplace. Encoding tribal knowledge into loadable, composable expertise so any engineer can be instantly productive in any monorepo.
- This is an opportunity to work on infrastructure that is genuinely new. You will be learning and building at the same time, with senior engineers who can help you grow.
What the Candidate Will Need / Bonus Points
---- What the Candidate Will Do ----
- Contribute to one or more of our core systems: skill packs, the MCP platform layer, the multi-agent runtime in DevPods, or AI-powered code intelligence.
- Write and ship production code with guidance from senior and staff engineers. Code quality, testing, and observability are part of the job from day one.
- Learn how agentic systems work in practice. Understand context engineering, tool use, and multi-agent orchestration by building them.
- Work across teams as features require. Collaboration with Code Infra, DevPod, and platform teams is part of the day-to-day.
---- Basic Qualifications ----
- Proficiency in at least one major programming language (Go, Java, Swift, Kotlin, Python, or TypeScript)
- 2+ years of professional engineering experience
- Foundational understanding of software engineering: data structures, APIs, system design basics
- Curiosity about AI and agentic systems. You do not need to be an expert, but you need to want to become one.
---- Preferred Qualifications ----
- Any hands-on experience with LLMs, AI APIs, or agent frameworks (LangGraph, Claude Code SDK, LangChain, or similar)
- Familiarity with developer tooling, CLIs, or platform infrastructure
- Exposure to large codebase workflows (monorepos, CI/CD, code review)
- Experience with MCP or LLM tool use is a strong plus
