AV Remote Assistance Specialist
About the Role
As a AV Remote Assistance Specialist, you will be at the forefront of Uber’s autonomous vehicle (AV) support ecosystem. Unlike traditional support roles, your primary objective is to provide real-time support to autonomous vehicles, owning the human-to-machine interaction. You will perform live operations with the vehicle by utilizing advanced software and technologies to navigate complex or ambiguous on-road situations—such as road obstructions and closures, traffic congestion and construction zones. This role requires a “tech forward” mindset, high attention to detail, and ability to maintain composure during high-pressure situations. To effectively carry out the duties of the role, we require the AV Remote Assistance Specialist to be in office each day, in-person, with no option for hybrid or remote work.
What You Will Do
- Real Time Intervention: Build situational context with camera and sensor feeds, and use proprietary tooling to send guidance to support autonomous vehicles in continuing to their destination
- Vehicle Navigational Guidance: Assist the autonomous vehicle in determining the most appropriate maneuvers or paths to resolve the situation. This is done without taking direct control of steering or braking.
- Response Management: Document issues that occur on the road to coordinate with other operators responsible for communicating with riders or providing in-field support.
- Judgment & Independence: Exercise a high degree of sound judgment to handle edge-case situations that may not have documented procedures.
- Research & Development: Write detailed reports for internal technical and non-technical stakeholders to review for quality assurance purposes.
Basic Qualifications
- At least 1 year of experience in operations, technical support, product testing or similar roles
