Senior Software Engineer (Storage Platform)
About the Role
Engineering at Uber means building systems with real-world impact under real-world constraints. In this role, you’ll help operate and evolve the infrastructure behind Uber’s large-scale data storage platforms - spanning more than 20 technologies including MySQL, Redis, and Kafka, managing exabytes of data across 50,000+ hosts, running in containers. Our mission is to deliver storage platforms at massive scale with high availability, reliability, and performance, where operations are heavily automated and systems are designed to self-heal.
This role is based in our Aarhus, Denmark office - a key global hub for Uber’s Infrastructure and Platform teams. Since opening in 2014, the office has grown to more than 150 engineers and has become a center of excellence for control planes, distributed systems, and mission-critical storage and compute platforms. Beyond the technical challenges, you’ll join a highly collaborative team of exceptional engineers who are passionate about building reliable, world-class infrastructure.

What You Will Do
You will build Uber’s storage platform, your team focuses on components running on each host in the fleet. On a daily basis you will:
- Continuously learn about complex systems, storage technologies, change management at fleet level, Linux.
- Plan, design, and develop new capabilities of the system, and measure their impact on business objectives.
- Monitor and debug the system in production. You will be part of an on-call rotation.
- Work together with colleagues in your team, multiple related Stateful Platform teams on the floor, and partner teams in the US and India.
- Write clean, tested, reviewed Go code, with best in class AI assistance.
- Contribute to engineering culture in terms of coding and testing practices, dev experience practices, productivity.
You will build ownership of the team's charter (or parts of it) and a long-term vision for the involved components.
What You Will Need/Bonus Points
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience.
- BS, MS, or Ph.D. degree in computer science, similar technical field of study, or similar practical experience.
- Grit, growth mindset, passion for engineering.
- Strong at design, coding, testing, bash/ssh.
- Experience operating containerized software at scale.
- Team player, collaborative. Can coordinate projects with partner teams, lead ambitious engineering initiatives.
- Attention to detail, particularly around software engineering fundamentals, and quality.
- Embrace of AI in software development workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with resource management on Linux - CPU, memory, disk, network.
- Experience with building large-scale distributed systems.
- Excellent written communication in design documents, problem analysis or incident post mortems.
- Passion to look inside and understand how fundamental platforms work (Linux, Kubernetes).
- Experience with OCI, GCP, AWS.
- Experience with multiple SQL, NoSql, Blob, Cache products.
This pipeline is intended for candidates with approximately 5+ years of relevant industry experience after completing their education.
