About the Role

You will drive the development and operations of security-focused software solutions and analytical frameworks that support user-facing products and platforms across Uber. You are a passionate and pragmatic technologist who can design scalable systems and deliver high-quality code. In today’s evolving security landscape—especially with the adoption of ML/GenAI and the integration of heterogeneous data—new threats continue to emerge. With your expertise across major technology stacks, you will architect and implement advanced security solutions, with a strong focus on analyzing data to detect threats and vulnerabilities. You will work closely with security leaders and the broader engineering organization to ensure that Uber’s technologies and systems are built with security-by-design in mind.

  1. Developing Security Solutions: Designing and implementing software solutions that enhance the organization’s security posture.
  2. Threat Analysis and Detection: Analyzing large-scale datasets to identify patterns, anomalies, and potential threats.
  3. Code Review and Testing: Writing, reviewing, and testing code to ensure reliability and security.
  4. Research and Innovation: Exploring new analytical techniques, tools, and algorithms to advance cyber defense capabilities.
  5. Training and Mentoring: Providing guidance to junior engineers on secure coding, data analysis techniques, and best practices.
  6. Collaboration and Communication: Partnering with cross-functional teams (e.g., network operations, incident response, compliance) to build cohesive security strategies.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

  1. BS/MS Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  2. 3+ years of industry experience in a software development environment.
  3. Proficiency in programming languages such as Golang, Python, or SQL.
  4. Hands-on experience analyzing data from distributed systems.
  5. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to derive insights from complex datasets.
  6. Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading cross-functional projects.

  1. Prior experience with security threat detection, anomaly detection, or data-driven risk assessment.
  2. Familiarity with large-scale data analysis frameworks (batch or streaming).
  3. Experience with ML techniques applied to threat detection and security.
  4. Knowledge of infrastructure security, vulnerability assessment, and incident mitigation.
  5. Experience leading design and development of complex, data-centric systems.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$167,000 per year - USD$185,500 per year.

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$167,000 per year - USD$185,500 per year.

For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$167,000 per year - USD$185,500 per year.
