Counsel, IP
The Intellectual Property Team is seeking an outstanding attorney with solid patent experience to support the company's worldwide intellectual property needs. As a member of the Uber Intellectual Property Team, you will contribute on a wide range of patent and technology legal matters. You will work closely with development teams to secure their ability to bring cutting edge technologies to market. You will partner with teams in the business and legal department to create and execute strategies that advance Uber's ability to help people go anywhere, get anything and earn their way.

What You’ll Do
- Develop Uber’s patent portfolio, including managing and working closely with outside patent counsel and members of Uber's IP Team.
- Partner with engineering and product teams to identify and harvest inventions in various technology areas.
- Support IP aspects of M&A, litigation, pre-litigation IP disputes, employment, compliance, and open source activities.
- Negotiate, draft, and review agreements involving technology and intellectual property matters, including patent transfer/license agreements and other complex IP transactions.
- Assist in the development of analytics tools and models to inform Uber’s patent portfolio strategy, evaluate patent risk, and identify prior art.
- Represent Uber in external IP organizations and events.
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of legal experience in private practice, and/or in-house OR Minimum 4 years, including +1 year Uber internal.
- J.D. and license to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and take ownership of projects from inception to completion, including a commitment to collaborate and deliver for others and a desire to innovate in the practice of IP.
- Experience handling a range of IP matters, including patent prosecution, IP transactions and licensing, open source, patent litigation, pre-litigation IP disputes, trade secrets, and copyrights.
- Broad patent prosecution experience; patent licensing or patent litigation experience a plus.
- Patent Attorney registered with the USPTO.
- Excellent business judgment and high comfort level advising senior leaders on a wide range of legal issues related to technology and/or software platforms.
- Strong interpersonal skills and highly collaborative with both business leaders and legal groups, with strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility, and partner across functions to build consensus.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$208,000 per year - USD$231,000 per year.
