Liverpool John Lennon Airport is the first airport in the UK to be named after an individual. It was renamed in 2001 as a tribute to former Beatle John Lennon, one of Liverpool’s most famous sons. Among the UK’s smaller airports, LPL serves around 5 million passengers a year and provides flights to more than 60 destinations, mostly in the UK and Europe.
