On Sunday, 18 April 2021, a fire rampaged through the University of Cape Town (UCT) and surrounding areas, destroying large parts of the university and leaving many students without a place of residence. Some students have lost everything – including clothing, toiletries, food and other essential items. They are in need of help from their community!

From Monday, 19 April to 10:00PM, Tuesday, 20 April, you can request an Uber and a driver will come to your doorstep, pick up your donations and deliver them directly to the UCT SRC and Gift of the Givers drop-off point in Cape Town (Old Mutual Mutual Park, Pinelands) – free of charge! For those who want to donate much-needed essential items, simply enter the promo code UBERCOMMUNITYCT in your Uber app. This offers you 1 free trip (up to R250) for all trips ending at 91 Jan Smuts Drive, Pinelands until 10PM on Tuesday, 20th April 2021.
