New places, faces and experiences – they’re all part of making the most of your city. But when it comes to getting around, you want to feel safe knowing that you’re protected and supported when you need it most.
Recent stats have shown that Uber has empowered women who use ride-sharing services to travel on their own terms.* We want to help ensure that everyone is able to travel with more confidence – this Women’s Month and beyond. That’s why we have a range of standards to help ensure that you can move safely and look forward to the opportunities ahead.
- Driver Screenings: All drivers have completed a screening process before they can accept trip requests through the Uber app, which includes passing a driving competency test, screening session and safety screening.
- Real-Time ID Check: To help ensure you know the right driver is behind the wheel, drivers are also regularly asked to take a selfie which is then verified against the photo logged on their Uber account.
- Share your Trip: Wherever you are, you can feel more secure by keeping loved ones up to speed. Share your driver’s first name and vehicle information, plus your map location in real time with up to 5 people from your contact list.
- One Touch Feedback: Our two-way rating system lets you rate your driver and feedback any concerns, helping keep riders and drivers safe.
- Sexual Misconduct Training: We share training with drivers on women’s safety issues, including those related to sexual abuse and misconduct? By raising awareness of women’s safety issues, we hope to help prevent violence in our communities.
- Emergency Assistance: In an emergency, seconds count. You want to have the tools to get help quickly if you need it, so we’ve made sure you can access emergency assistance through a third-party private security supplier from within the Uber app at any time during your trip.
*The stats referenced above are taken from the Brand Health Tracker Survey conducted in January 2022 by PSB UK Ltd. The sample size was approximately 1500 participants who were surveyed about their experience on e-hailing platforms available in South Africa.
