Cancellations can be frustrating for riders and driver partners alike, which is why the cancellation fee is in place to ensure that drivers are fairly compensated for their time when committing to a trip. This cancellation fee for cash trips is automatically charged to your next trip.
In general, if you cancel a trip within 5 minutes of the initial request, you will not be charged a cancellation fee. However, if you cancel after 5 minutes on a cash trip, the cancellation fee will automatically be charged to your next successfully completed trip.
Before you cancel a cash trip, you will receive the following notification to ensure that you are aware of the fee that will be added to your next trip:
After completing your next trip, the total fare that you will pay will include the current fare as well as the previous trip’s cancellation fee. You will receive two receipts for each of these payments which include:
- Current trip fare
- Previous trip’s cancellation fee
If you have cancelled multiple cash trips consecutively, the cancellation fees for the multiple trips will accumulate as arrears and prevent any more requests from going through. In such cases, you’re expected to clear the arrears using an alternative payment method such as a credit or cheque card. Once the payments in arrears have been cleared, you will be able to request an Uber ride as usual.
Cash Cancellation Fees:
uberX – R25
UberBLACK – R70 in Johannesburg and R45 in Cape Town
uberXL – R25
uberVAN – R100
If you feel that a cash cancellation fee has been unfairly charged, please get in touch by contacting us through the Help section of the Uber app, so that we can look into this for you.
