Helping aspiring developers on their academic journey has become one of our core developer initiatives here at Uber. Not only are we able to give back to the developer community, but we’re also having a lot of fun along the way. Starting today, we will be partnering up with DevLeague in an effort to expand our developer outreach to the islands of Hawaii!

Located on the island of Oahu, DevLeague is the leading full time and part time coding bootcamp in Honolulu. In 12 weeks, students learn over 20 different languages and frameworks that will help prepare them for their new careers. With the help of Uber, DevLeague students will soon be able to take advantage of Uber’s expertise in API development in their curriculum, receive career guidance from Uber employees, and participate in developer events.

“At DevLeague, we are thrilled to establish a partnership with Uber and the opportunities it provides our students. Not only do the students get to experience building exciting new applications on top of Uber’s cutting edge API, but they also have the opportunity to establish relationships with leading developers within the company and receive valuable mentorship from top-tier industry professionals outside of Hawaii. To have Uber’s support to put on an event that brings together all the islands virtually for a real-time event is going to be a lot of fun. It gives us an opportunity to bring together and showcase all of the diverse talent that we have here in Hawaii.”

—Jason Sewell, Co-Founder at DevLeague

Aloha! Welcome to the first Uber hackathon in hawaii

Although we’ve hosted many hackathons in the past, this will be our first hackathon that we host in Hawaii. Uber and DevLeague would like to include as many tech organizations as possible, including those who are outside of Oahu. By combining an onsite and remote option for the hackathon, developers from Maui, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, and the Big Island will have the opportunity to participate. We’re excited to see what kind of hacks developers in Hawaii will come up with!
