Zach Singleton is the Director of Product Management for Uber’s Safety, Equity and Privacy Product Teams. He joined Uber as its first Privacy Product Manager in 2016, during a challenging time for the company’s culture. Fortunately, Zach’s personal mission to shape culture and inspire confidence in excluded communities aligned directly to this challenge. He is known for being instrumental in transforming the culture of the tech team on privacy, inclusion and equity.
As the key product leader in establishing the company’s current strong privacy posture, he is credited with building Uber into the most differentiated privacy product experience in rideshare and delivery. He also contributed to the rewrite and introduction of multiple new data governance policies in partnership with the company’s legal and policy teams.
On the inclusion and equity side, Zach founded the company’s highly regarded Uber Career Prep program, which trains and mentors underrepresented college engineering students for jobs across the US, Canada, Mexico and Brazil. The program has a 5% admission rate, and each year over 80% of its 50-student cohort secure software engineering jobs at top tier tech companies, including Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Snap, Uber and more. And most recently, Zach founded Uber’s Product Equity Team, which aims to foster a culture and institute systems that enable building inclusive experiences as the norm. Together, these two programs have reshaped how Uber’s tech team hires, designs and builds products.
Some of the products Zach is responsible for today include the company’s Safety Recording Products, Privacy Center, Accessibility, Facial Recognition Solutions, and Tech enabling users to identify as they choose on the platform. Zach holds a BA in Economics from UC Berkeley and an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business. In his spare time, he enjoys live music, and he is a lifelong Golden State Warriors fan. He is originally from Oakland, California.
