Introducing Drivers for Change, an initiative that empowers our driver-partners to support the causes that move them forward. Driver-partners were encouraged to submit an application for a grant of up to $16,000 to fund a local organisation they would like to support.
Today, with the help from the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC), and the votes of our driver-partner community, we’re thrilled to announce the first Drivers for Change grant recipients. The 4 winners — August, Choon Bok, Marhani, and Zi Yun — each have a special story to tell about the cause they chose. Read about their stories below and vote for the one that resonates most with you. We’ll add an additional $1 for every vote an organisation gets.
August Nathanael (Jamiyah Children’s Home)
August Nathanael, a driver-partner with Uber for over 1.5 years partakes in every opportunity to help the causes that matter to him. “It’s always a human thing to do, to reach out to volunteer and support,” he tells us.
His organisation of choice? Jamiyah Children’s Home. August believes that society should help minority children at risk – and hopes the publicity from Drivers for Change will push others to volunteer and contribute as well.
Marhani Minhaj (SPCA)
Marhani sees Driver for Change as a golden opportunity to help out Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). As a cat lover who has personally adopted from SPCA, she would love to help a cause dedicated to rehoming animals. “I love cats, but other animals deserve help too, and a big organisation helping out the cause against animal cruelty definitely deserves some love.”
Chua Choon Bok (Lee Ah Mooi’s Old Age Home)
54-year-old Choon Bok has been contributing food to Lee Ah Mooi’s Old Age Home for 5-6 years. Seeing that the organisation is looking to find bigger premises for its ever-growing home, Choon Bok has also been helping out with donations within his means as a retiree, and loves that Driver for Change can help contribute further.
Kee Zi Yun (Children’s Cancer Foundation)
Driver-partner Kee Zi Yun, touched by the lives of cancer patients she’s met along the way, has been volunteering for Children’s Cancer Foundation for 4 years. Besides participating in Hair for Hope, she also visits patients at KK hospital and delivers books for them. “It’s important to have a big and willing heart – doing little can make a huge difference.”
We’re humbled by the passion and dedication our driver-partners bring to making Singapore a better place. And now, it’s your turn to vote for the cause that means the most to you. Go on, vote for the cause you would like to support and stay tuned to know which one Singapore voted for!
