Tips to help you safely deliver a heavy or oversized order
Safety is one of our top priorities. That’s why we’ve pulled together some useful industry guidance from Safe Work Australia to help you prevent injury the next time you need to handle a heavy or oversized order.
When lifting heavy items:
- Bend your knees and keep your back straight and upright. Avoid unnecessary bending, twisting or reaching.
- Make sure that you have a secure grip on the object.
- Keep the object as close to your body as possible, and lift with your thigh muscles, not your back.
Let a trolley do the work
If you have a car and you’re picking up groceries, you could use a trolley to avoid strain when bringing the items to your car.
Secure your delivery bag
If you’re on a bike and using a delivery bag, it is best to double check that the bag is secured to minimise movement, and that the straps are in good condition.
What if the order is too heavy to carry?
If you think an order is too heavy or difficult to carry, you can easily cancel the delivery the app. Just choose ‘Oversized Item’ as your reason for cancellation.
