Use this page to understand earning opportunities with Uber Eats. Find out when and where it’s best to take a trip, so you feel confident hitting the road.
You’ll know your estimated earnings for each trip upfront, every time
Before you accept a trip, you’ll be provided with upfront trip information. This includes the estimated earnings you’ll receive for completing the trip(s), your pickup and drop-off locations, the name and location of the restaurant, and the total estimated time and distance from when you accept a delivery request to when you drop off the order.

And remember – the upfront estimated earnings shown is after the Uber service fee is deducted. This means you’ll know the estimated amount you’ll earn every time.
Once you complete a trip, the trip details screen will give you a comprehensive breakdown of all your trip components. Any tips or tolls will be added or reimbursed after your trip and shown on the trip details screen.
Earnings with Uber Eats
This is made up of the trip fare and any promotions, and doesn’t include tips or tolls.
Fare (subject to Uber service fee)
Base amount
The base amount is calculated on estimated delivery time, distance, and whether the trip has multiple pickup and/or drop- off points.
Trip Supplement
In certain circumstances, a trip supplement may apply to a trip in addition to the base amount, when there are:
- Higher than usual estimated traffic conditions
- Higher than usual estimated wait times at the pickup location
- Areas with limited availability of delivery partners and higher than usual demand for delivery
Trip supplement amounts can range up to an additional $12.
Promotions (not subject to Uber service fee)
Promotions can help you identify busy areas when there’s a high demand for trips. High demand usually means there are more opportunities for trip requests. And if available, you can take advantage of multiple promotions at once. Check the map and Promotions section in the app for the latest offers.
Boost
Boost zones are announced weekly in the promotions section of Trip Planner in the app, when available. You can also check the map in the app for available Boost zones.
Any Boost amounts that apply to a trip are included in the upfront estimated earnings amount displayed when you receive and complete the trip request.
Boost amounts range up to 2.5x of the base amount.
Surge (if available in your city)
Look for surge zones on the map. Surge zones update in real time based on demand. If you pick up an order from a surge zone or accept a trip request when you’re in a surge zone, you’ll receive the higher of the two surge amounts.
Any surge amounts that apply to a trip are included in the upfront estimated earnings amount displayed when you receive and complete the a trip request.
Surge amounts can range up to $10.
Tolls (where applicable, for motorised vehicles only)
Tolls legitimately incurred between pickup and drop-off will be reimbursed to you. Tolls are not included in the upfront estimated earnings amount displayed when you receive and complete the trip request, but will be shown in the trip details screen after you complete the trip.
Tips (not subject to Uber service fee)
Any tips you earn from delivery recipients are in addition to your other trip earnings and will be reflected in the trip receipt. You keep 100% of tips.
Service Fee
The Uber service fee that applies to a trip will be calculated based on the base amount and any trip supplement amount.
You will not pay a service fee to Uber for any amounts you receive as a promotion.
For cities in New Zealand, the Uber service fee is 10%.
Frequently asked questions
- When and where is this update happening?
The new delivery fare structure will launch in all cities in New Zealand. The changes will be effective starting from July 13, 2020
- Who does this change apply to?
Down Small This is a change for anyone who uses Uber Eats to provide delivery services to restaurants and other merchants.
- What upfront trip information will be displayed on my app before I accept a trip request?
Down Small While delivery partners have always been free to cancel a trip request after accepting it, at the moment not all information about the trip is provided upfront. We know accepting a trip can be about more than money, so you’ll now also see the location and name of the restaurant, the total estimated time and distance from accepting the trip to drop-off, and your pickup and drop-off locations. This means you will have more information upfront before deciding whether to accept a trip.
- Is time and distance shown on the trip request screen from when I accept the trip request?
Down Small Yes, the way you earn is changing to better reflect each trip’s total time and distance. The time and distance shown on the trip request screen is the estimated total trip time and distance for the whole trip, including the estimated time and distance to travel to the restaurant and the estimated wait times at the restaurant.
- Does the amount shown upfront on the trip request screen include my tip?
Down Small No, tips are not included in the upfront estimated amount that you see on the trip request screen for completing the trip(s). Any tips you earn are an addition to your other trip earnings and will be reflected in the trip receipt. As a reminder, you can check the Trip Details screen one hour after drop-off to see your total trip earnings for each trip. Consumers have that time to edit their tip based on your service.
- Does the amount shown upfront on the trip request screen include tolls?
Down Small No, tolls are not included in the upfront estimated amount that you see on the trip request screen for completing the trip(s). Tolls legitimately incurred between pickup and drop-off will be reimbursed to you. Tolls will be shown in the trip details screen after you complete the trip.
- Are the new rates in gross or net?
Down Small The amount you see on the trip request screen represents your estimated earnings after the Uber service fee is deducted, which means you’ll know the estimated amount you’ll earn for each trip, every time.
- What is changing about the Uber service fee?
Down Small As part of the new fare structure each trip will attract a lower Uber service fee of 10%. The Uber service fee is applicable only to the base amount and Trip Supplement components.
- How can I make sure I get paid the amount shown on the trip request screen?
Down Small Once you complete a trip, you can check the Trip Details screen to see your total earnings for the trip. You’ll see the upfront amount you were shown on the trip request screen as the “Estimated min. earnings after service fee”, so you can easily match up the numbers.
- Will I always get paid the exact amount shown upfront on the trip request screen?
Down Small The upfront amount shown on the trip request screen is your upfront estimate earnings for fully completed trip(s). If you believe this is an error, please reach out to support. Where completing trip(s) takes longer than estimated, you may receive more than the upfront amount. As always, any tips you earn on completed trips are yours to keep, and legitimately incurred tolls will be fully reimbursed to you.
- What is the earnings amount? And how is it calculated?
Down Small This is the amount you see on the trip request screen. It is the estimate amount you’ll earn for a completed trip(s). This amount includes your base amount, promotions that are available and any trip supplement (if applicable). Tips and any tolls incurred between pick up and drop off are not included in the upfront estimate amount and are additive.
- How are fares changing?
Down Small As this new fare structure is rolled out, you can expect to see changes in what you earn on each trip. One of the key reasons for this is because your earnings will now reflect the estimated time spent making the delivery, not only the estimated distance travelled. This means there will be differences with some trips paying more, while others pay less. As always, when there’s a high demand for delivery you may have access to Boost, Surge (if applicable) and Quest promotions.
- What are the new rates?
Down Small You’ll see the amount you’ll earn for the completion of the trip(s) before you accept it. This amount includes your base amount, any promotions that apply and a trip supplement (if applicable). After the trip you can check the Trip Details screen to see your base amount amount and total earnings for the trip. Earnings components can be found at the top of this page.
- Are there any changes to promotions?
Down Small Promotions will continue to apply to certain trips in the same way they currently do, but will be paid to you by the restaurant. Promotions can help you identify busy areas when there’s a high demand for delivery. You’ll continue to have access to Boost, Surge (if applicable) and Quest in your city. You can check the Trip Details screen to see any “promotions” amount and total trip earnings for each delivery.
- What is a Trip Supplement? How do I know how much it is?
Down Small In certain circumstances, a trip supplement may apply to a trip in addition to the base amount, when there are:
- Higher than usual estimated traffic conditions
- Higher than usual estimated wait times at the pickup location
- Areas with limited availability of delivery partners and higher than usual demand for delivery
The Trip Supplement is subject to the Uber service fee. You can check the Trip Details screen to see any “Trip Supplement” amount as well as your total trip earnings for each trip.
- What happens if I decline a request?
Down Small When you receive a trip request you can choose to accept or ignore the trip request, or select ‘decline’ to reject the request. If you choose to reject the request, you will be able to receive other trip requests, if available. If you accept a trip request, you are free to cancel the request without consequence until you have collected the item(s).
- Will my earnings change as a result of the new fare structure?
Down Small Your earnings for each trip may vary with this new fare structure because the structure is designed to better reflect the estimated time spent making the trip, not just distance travelled. This does mean delivery partners may earn more on some trips, while other trips will now pay less. However by seeing the upfront estimated earnings and trip information, you can ensure a trip is worth your effort.
- I was paid less than the amount shown on the offer card. How can this be?
Down Small Your earnings for each trip may vary with this new fare structure because the structure is designed to better reflect the estimated time spent making the trip, not just distance travelled. This does mean delivery partners may earn more on some trips, while other trips will now pay less. However by seeing the upfront estimated earnings and trip information, you can ensure a trip is worth your effort.
