In order to receive an alcohol or tobacco delivery, if it is being delivered by an Uber Eats delivery person, you will be required to:
- Be aged 18 or over.
- Produce an approved evidence of age document for the delivery person to scan via their Uber Driver app to verify that you are aged 18 or over, and that you are the person who placed the order.
- Not be intoxicated. (For alcohol deliveries).
Please note that if the delivery person is unable to upload a scan of your approved evidence of age document, they will need to record your name, date of birth, the document type and expiration date of your evidence of age document into their Driver App.
Only the nominated recipient may receive the delivery. You are unable to authorise another person to accept an alcohol delivery on your behalf, this includes in the case of gifting. The delivery person will need to confirm that all of the above requirements are met using their Uber Driver App before they can hand over the alcohol to you.
Why are these requirements in place?
Supplying an age-restricted item to a minor
- It is against the law to sell or supply alcohol or tobacco to a minor.
- It is against the law for minors to obtain, consume or carry away alcohol or tobacco from licensed premises.
- It is against the law for a person to use a fake ID or someone else’s ID to purchase alcohol.

- It is against the law to supply alcohol to a person who is intoxicated.

- Australian or foreign passport
- Photo Card issued by the Commonwealth or another State or Territory

- What if I don’t have an ID?
If you are unable to produce an approved evidence of age document, the delivery person will not be able to leave the alcoholic or tobacco items with you. The delivery person will be prompted by their Uber Driver App to return the goods to the store. If you are unable to present an approved evidence of age document, you should not order alcohol via the Uber Eats App.
- Why is the delivery person scanning my ID?
ID verification using a scan of your evidence of age document is a technology improvement that helps to verify that delivery recipients are over 18 years of age and can legally have alcohol or tobacco delivered to them. This technology makes this process easier for delivery persons to ensure they’re delivering alcohol or tobacco to someone over the age of 18. Having a robust age verification process also discourages minors from trying to order alcohol deliveries via the Uber Eats App.
- What data is stored?
When scanning your evidence of age document, an image of your ID will be collected by Uber Technologies Inc. for regulatory compliance purposes, including to verify your age. The name, date of birth, ID document type and expiry date will be transcribed by our contracted service provider in the United States and securely shared with Uber Eats. When data is manually input into the Uber Driver App, the data stored will be the name, date of birth, ID document type and expiration date.
- How is it stored?
The transcribed name, date of birth, document type and expiry date from your ID will be encrypted and retained by Uber Technologies Inc. in the United States. - What if the ID I have is not on the list of approved evidence of age documents?

- Can another adult accept the order on my behalf?
The order can only be accepted by the nominated recipient. If the name shown on the evidence of age document does not match the name on the order, the delivery person will not be able to leave the alcohol items with you and will be prompted by the Uber Driver App to return them to the store.
