Uber has arrived in the capital of the biggest economy in Africa. Abuja always was and continues to be a place where entrepreneurs are born, it is a growing city in the heart of Nigeria. This is a reason why Uber loves Abuja – its people, tranquility and beauty really speak for itself. What’s more? You get to ride for FREE all week!
Earlier today the first Uber’s started roaming the streets of Abuja. Within minutes, we managed to catch our first riders jumping in an Uber! We spotted Play lounge owner Charles Okpaleke, the lovely lady behind DZYN Ogwa Iweze, Sal Gbaja who introduced the delicious salamander cafe to Abuja, celebrity photographer George Okoro and the lovely humanitarian, Adama Indimi out and about with their Ubers! Always the quickest to spot the latest trends, they simply opened their Uber app and pushed the button. 4 minutes later, their Uber’s rolled up and they were on their way. Easy as!

What is Uber?
For those who don’t know about Uber, we help people get a ride at the tap of a button – there’s no flagging your hands to stop a taxi or entering an unfamiliar car. It’s the most convenient way to get a safe, reliable and affordable ride – the app detects your location, tells you about your driver in advance, and you can choose to pay with card or cash so it is easy and safer for both riders and drivers.
Can’t wait to try it out?
- Download the App from the Play store or App store.
- Register with your personal details.
- Choose your pick-up location, request a ride and track your car in real-time.
- Your ride is free all week long!
With Uber, riders can also share the costs of their ride with a tap of a button — which means whether you are heading to the airport, running errands in Wuse 2, planning movie nights at Silverbird cinema or going out for some late night partying at Play, you will get there for less!
Sample trips with Uber:
- Maitama to Asokoro: ₦650
- Wuse 2 to Gwarinpa: ₦800
- Life Camp to Wuse 2: ₦750
- Airport to Maitama: ₦2,350
- Aiport to Wuse 2: ₦2,300
Uber is still in testing mode so there may be limited availability from time to time as we get going in Abuja. Please be patient with us in the first few weeks, we’ll be getting you connected to as many drivers as fast as possible.
We’re super excited to be here, and we hope you are too! Go for a ride and send your thoughts to support@uber.com or tweet at us @ubernigeria.
Have a great trip!
