1. Why do I see my trip as a foreign transaction on my card statement and/or card issuers transaction message?
When you book a trip via the Uber App, your payment transaction may be processed offshore utilising Uber’s relationships with its international payment processors and banking partners.
As a result your payment method issuer may show your transaction (in messaging and statements) as a foreign transaction via a foreign Uber entity and may charge you additional fees, over which Uber has no control.
2. Disclosure and consent
In accordance with the Rider’s General Terms of Use, each time you choose to pay for transactions using a digital payment method saved to your Wallet, you acknowledge that your transaction may be processed and acquired offshore and that you may incur additional fees and charges from your bank or card issuer.
3. Does Uber charge me for using a digital payment method to pay for a transaction via the Uber App?
No, currently Uber does not charge you as a User for paying for transactions using a digital payment method. Your issuing bank may impose charges on you.
4. What is Payment Pre Authorization?
When you book a trip through the Uber app, Uber or its payment partners check with your bank (or payment method issuer) to make sure your payment method is valid and you have enough money. Your bank then “holds” or “reserves” that money until the transaction is complete or the hold expires. You might see this as a “pending” or “processing” charge on your bank statements or messages. This held amount is just an estimate and not the actual charge. Uber only processes the real payment after your order or trip is finished. Uber doesn’t control how long your bank (or payment method issuer) holds these funds, so if you have questions about pre-authorization holds, please contact your bank (or payment method issuer) directly.
