

Uber has updated its vehicle eligibility criteria, and this message serves as a notice for your attention. The purpose of these requirements is to introduce greater consistency and streamline the vehicles operating on the Uber platform. The updates will apply to vehicles operating within Nairobi, Kenya.
Vehicle Eligibility
As communicated on 25th November 2024;
- Where your vehicle will operate on the platform for the first time on Uber ChapChap, only vehicles that are 10 years old or newer will be eligible to join the Uber platform. Please note that this means:
- From Jan 2025 only 2015 and newer vehicles will be eligible to join
- From Jan 2026 only 2016 and newer vehicles will be eligible to join
- Where your vehicle will operate on the platform for the first time on Uber Comfort, only vehicles that are 8 years old or newer will be eligible to join the Uber platform. Please note that this means:
- From Jan 2025 only 2017 and newer vehicles will be eligible to join.
- From Jan 2026 only 2018 and newer vehicles will be eligible to join.
- Where your vehicle has already been operating on the platform on Uber ChapChap, only vehicles that are 12 years old or newer will be eligible to remain on the Uber platform from 1st Jan 2026. This means that the last operating date for;
- 2008 – 2013 and older vehicles will be on 31st December 2025
- 2014 and older vehicles will be on 31st December 2026
- 2015 and older vehicles will be on 31st December 2027
No new vehicle will be accepted onto the UberX and Uber XL product category from 9th December 2024. These products will not be available after 31st December 2025:
- For medium sized vehicles, you may consider registering your vehicle for Uber Comfort.
- For larger capacity vehicles, a new product will be launched with additional communication to be shared soon.
