Women Are Driving Kenya Forward with Uber
We chat with Agnes, one of Nairobi’s many female driver-partners. Read her story and see why female driver-partners are inspiring our community
Uber women driver-partners have inspired our community. From proving the hustle is real to enjoying themselves through the glitz and glam we celebrated International Women’s Day with, this March.
We want to inspire you by sharing an Uber story with you.
Meet Agnes, a female driver-partner, in her mid-twenties, who joined the Uber family after she graduated from college. The possibilities seem endless, but Agnes was unable to find a job and decided that Uber was her answer. Not only could she drive using the app on her time, but was provided with an opportunity to continue with her hustle on her time.
We asked Agnes a few questions and this is what she had to say:
When did you start driving with Uber?
In November 2015. I like driving with Uber as it enables me to do my errands throughout the day. I also like the app’s driver destination feature that enables me to set home as my destination on my way home so I can pick up a passenger as I go home.
Relationship status – Single
How do male clients perceive you?
Most male riders are happy to ride with me, some have been a little worried and wanted to know if I was okay.
Challenges and advice to other women
I like to work during the day and up until 10am. As a woman I don’t like to drive late into the night – I would rather close early to ensure that I am safe.
