What is phone number anonymization?
Phone number anonymization is a safety precaution, which ensures that the privacy of both drivers and riders is considered at all times. This is done by using software to connect calls between drivers and riders, which anonymises both cellphone numbers. 

Why is Uber making my number anonymous?
Phone number anonymization complies with Uber’s Community Guidelines which promotes mutual respect between riders and drivers. This is done by ensuring that your personal contact details are protected during every trip, so that there is never any unwanted communication post-trip.

How does anonymisation actually work?
Now, when a rider and driver-partner contact each other regarding a trip, both phone numbers will be anonymised – meaning that you will no longer see each other’s personal contact details.

What is in-app chat
In-app chat is free to use, and is the easiest way to get in touch once a driver has accepted your trip. If you’re running late or can’t find your driver at the pickup point, simply use in-app chat to send them a message. With this, drivers can also get in touch with you to update you on their whereabouts.

Uber support is still a tap away
Uber support is also free to use in-app after a trip. Simply click on “Help” in the Uber app navigation, select your most recent trip, and then select what you need assistance with. We will then communicate with you and your driver to resolve any issues you may have had. .
