At Uber we are committed to safety, not only of those who interact with our application, but of all the people who share the public road.
Because leasing for long periods of time can increase the risk of fatigue-related accidents, we included a new feature in the app to help lessor partners have visibility into the hours they’ve been leasing and stay safe on the road.
🔹 ¿What is “Driver Hour Limit” ?

“Driving Hour Limit” is an in-app feature that counts leasing time and recommends a disconnect period when a lessor partner exceeds the limit.
For your safety, as well as that of users, pedestrians and all road users, the limit of hours you can lease with the Uber app is 12 hours, if you exceed this time, the application will automatically disconnect you for 6 hours uninterrupted.
Lessor partners will receive notifications via the app when they have 2 hours, 1 hour and 30 minutes of leasing time left. And every time they’re offline for 6 hours or more, your leasing hours will reset.
🔹 ¿What counts as Leasing Time?
The in-app feature automatically counts the total number of hours a lessor partner spends leasing while online. If you are moving, time counts.
🔹 How does the Configuration Policy work?
🚗 Leasing time: 12 hours (accumulated)
😴 Time offline: 6 hours (consecutive)
- For every 6 consecutive hours a lessor partner is offline, their available lease time is reset to 12 hours.
- After 12 accumulated leasing hours, lessor partners must be offline for 6 consecutive hours.
- If you reach the limit of hours, that is, 12 hours of continuous leasing, the application will automatically disconnect you for 6 hours without interruption. In case of being on a lease, the disconnection occurs at the end of the lease. As soon as those 6 hours pass, you will be automatically enabled to lease again.
- You can disconnect as long as you want to rest but unless you are disconnected for 6 hours or more in a row, your leasing time will be reset to zero.
Frequently asked questions
- Why was this feature created?
This new feature was created to promote safe and responsible use of the application. We want to strengthen our focus on helping to keep users, lessor partners, pedestrians, and other vehicles safe.
- Where do I see leasing time?
You can see how long you have been online and how many hours you have left in the “Driving time” option in your application. You can also see the Leasing Time Policy, as well as how many hours you have leased, or have been offline.
- How do I know when the time limit is close?
Lessor partners receive notifications when they approach the leasing limit. They receive three notifications informing them that they have 2 hours, 1 hour and 30 minutes of leasing left, so they can plan the rest of the day. These notices appear after the lessor partner completes a lease.
- What happens when I reach the hour limit?
Lessor partners are notified when their time is up, that is, 12 accumulated leasing hours.
When lessor partners exceed the leasing time limit, they are notified that their application is now offline, and they are informed when they can reconnect.
In the case of being in a lease, the disconnection occurs at the end of the same. As soon as those 6 hours pass, you will be automatically enabled to make leases again. Pressing the start button to connect will not work until the lessor partner has completed the disconnection period.
- How do I know when I am close to finishing my 6 hours of rest?
When lessor partners are close to completing their 6-hour disconnection period, they are informed when they attempt to connect.
To avoid connecting before the 6 hours, when a lessor partner is less than an hour from completing the full disconnection time, they will receive a reminder notification when attempting to connect.
- If you wait a long time to receive a lease, what will it look like in these cases? Will the waiting time be counted?
If the lessor partner is just waiting to receive a lease without moving, time does not count. If you’re on the go, time counts.
- How many hours can a lessor partner lease a day?
That is decided by the lessor partner. You just have to remember that for your safety, that of users, pedestrians, and other vehicles you should not exceed the 12 hour limit.
- Does the count restart every 24 hours or midnight?
No, the hour count resets until the lessor partner stops leasing for 6 consecutive hours, so we recommend taking a break.
- Can the lessor partner take his own breaks, will this count toward the 6 hour “rest period”?
Yes, you can disconnect as long as you want to rest but unless you are disconnected for 6 hours or more in a row, your leasing time will be reset to zero.
