Serving millions more in Mumbai with uberPOOL

Eight months ago, we introduced a new way to get around Mumbai—uberPOOL. The concept behind uberPOOL is as simple this: reduce the price of a ride by combining trips along similar routes. In the last thirty days, Uber users across India have saved ₹15,01,64,812 on their rides, just by using uberPOOL. And as millions continue to rack up savings in Mumbai, we’re excited to announce that we’re opening up our cost-efficient uberPOOL feature to millions more – in Thane, Sion, Navi Mumbai and Mira-Bhayandar.

Here’s a map of our new coverage areas.

In these areas, from Nariman Point to Palm Beach Road and Viviana Mall to Mira Road, as of today, you can request an uberPOOL and save up to 50% on your fare with uberPOOL, compared to uberGO.

We’re rolling out our Scheduled Rides feature to these neighbourhoods! You can request your Uber 30 days to 15 minutes ahead of time and have the comfort of knowing your Uber will be there when it’s time to head out.

WHEN: The POOL option is available only between 6AM – 10PM, 7 days a week

WHERE: POOL trips can be requested from and to most parts of South, North & West Mumbai. East Mumbai and now Thane, Sion, Mira-Bhayandar and Navi Mumbai.

SAFETY: Uber’s product safety features will be on before, during and after the ride–such as the ability to see your driver’s details in advance, GPS tracking, share my journey and the HELP button in case of an emergency.

This works like our other Uber options, with a few differences that help make it a cheaper option:

Once you’ve been matched with a co-rider, you’ll receive a notification with that rider’s name and who’s being picked up first. To ensure there’s room for everyone, right now we can only have two riders per pickup, and no pets (except service animals, of course).

All shared trips for riders in Mumbai are up to 50% more affordable than solo-travel option uberGO trips. You will see the your fare upfront in the app, before requesting – that’s all you’ll need to pay. Pretty good deal, right?

If there is no rider near you with a similar route, you’ll get a solo ride, just like taking uberGO. And, uberPOOL pricing will still apply.

Feel free to bring a friend! To make sure there’s enough room for everyone, right now we can only allow 2 riders per pickup.

Co-riders are matched according to similar pickup locations and destinations. As always, we’re always aiming to take you on the most efficient route based on your request. Once you start your shared trip, you can’t ask the driver to cancel on the other rider.

You’ll share one of the vehicles that’s otherwise available on uberGO.

We match riders in a way that does not significantly increase total trip time. If there is no rider near you with a similar route, you’ll get a solo ride, just like taking uberGO.

Please be prepared to meet your driver as soon as the car arrives. As a courtesy to your co-rider, your driver will only wait 2 minutes.

We map the route to be the most efficient possible. That means that sometimes you will be picked up first and dropped off second, but your total trip time will be minimized.

Yes, you can. Taking a shared ride is one of the most cost-efficient ways to go to the airport. But remember there will need to be room for another person and their belongings in the car.

Cancelations impact both your co-rider and your driver, so please try to avoid them. If you must cancel, you will be charged ₹60, as with uberGO cancelations. For the best experience on a carpool ride for both you and your co-rider, your driver will wait only 2 minutes. Request only when you’re ready to leave to avoid paying a no-show fee of ₹60

Because we use your pickup location and destination when matching you with another rider, you cannot change either once you’ve requested the trip.
