Today, we are excited to announce the launch of carpooling service in Kolkata, uberPOOL. People going to the same place at the same time will now be able to share their journey at a fraction of the cost.

Selecting the uberPOOL option connects you real-time with 1-2 passengers heading in the same direction, adds only a few minutes to your trip, and you both save big. Shared rides are up to 50% cheaper than traveling solo on uberGO and no matter where you’re headed – it will get you there for way, way less!

WHEN: The POOL option is available only between 6AM – 12PM, 7 days a week

WHERE: POOL trips can be requested from and to most parts of South, North & West Kolkata and some parts of East Kolkata. Check out our uberPOOL coverage area map:

WHO: Each request can have a maximum of 2 riders per pick up. You will be matched with another requester, for up to 4 riders in total in the car

COST: The upfront fare you’re shown at request is guaranteed whether you’re matched or not – no surprises! Here are a few sample fares during commuting hours:

SAFETY: Uber’s product safety features will be on before, during and after the ride–such as the ability to see your driver’s details in advance, GPS tracking, share my journey and the HELP button in case of an emergency.

Remember, entering your destination is required for every uberGO trip. Don’t forget to update your Uber app on your phone!

Riders are connected with only verified drivers. Wrong driver and/or car would be considered zero tolerance cases and could lead to immediate suspension of the account

FAQs

This works like our other Uber options, with a few differences that help make it a cheaper option:

Currently, carpooling is available only in most parts of South, West and North Kolkata, and some parts of East Kolkata from 6AM-10PM. Once you’ve been matched with a co-rider, you’ll receive a notification with that rider’s name and who’s being picked up first. To ensure there’s room for everyone, right now we can only have two riders per pickup, and no pets (except service animals, of course).

Right now, for a limited time, all shared trips for riders in Kolkata are 20%-50% lesser than solo-travel option uberGO trips. You will see the pricing upfront before requesting and that’s all you’ll need to pay. Pretty good deal, right?

If there is no rider near you with a similar route, you’ll get a solo ride, just like taking uberGO. And, discounted pricing will still apply.

Feel free to bring a friend! To make sure there’s enough room for everyone, right now we can only allow 2 riders per pickup.

Co-riders are matched according to similar pickup locations and destinations. As always, we’re always aiming to take you on the most efficient route based on your request. Once you start your shared trip, you can’t ask the driver to cancel on the other rider.

You’ll share one of the vehicles that’s otherwise available on uberGO and uberX.

We match riders in a way that does not significantly increase total trip time. If there is no rider near you with a similar route, you’ll get a solo ride, just like taking uberGO.

Please be prepared to meet your driver as soon as the car arrives. As a courtesy to your co-rider, your driver will only wait 2 minutes.

We map the route to be the most efficient possible. That means that sometimes you will be picked up first and dropped off second, but your total trip time will be minimized.

Yes, you can. Taking a shared ride is one of the most cost-efficient ways to go to the airport. But remember there will need to be room for another person and their belongings in the car.

Cancellations impact both your co-rider and your driver, so please try to avoid them. If you must cancel, you will be charged ₹60, as with uberGO cancellations. For the best experience on a carpool ride for both you and your co-rider, your driver will wait only 2 minutes. Request only when you’re ready to leave to avoid paying a no-show fee of ₹60

Because we use your pickup location and destination when matching you with another rider, you cannot change either once you’ve requested the trip.
