It’s hard to walk in Bandra without tripping over a loaf of sour dough bread, which means picking a restaurant or café can also be a bit overwhelming.
Lucky for you, we’re here to help. Request an UberHIRE and use this quick Brown Paper Bag guide for a foodie’s day out in Bandra and Khar.
Breakfast
The Kitchen Garden
This Bandra café by the Suzette family is milling with millet-fans no matter what time of the day you visit. We once spotted SRK on a solo coffee run here! The mostly-organic produce is sourced from their own farm, and the to-go fridge encourages you to grab a healthy snack of home-made yogurt or cold pressed juice. bpb’s favourite breakfast item: Spanish-cooked ham, cheddar and eggs served in a buttery brioche. Psst: A new Kitchen Garden outpost is coming up in BKC soon!
C-101, St John Street, Pali Hill, Bandra (W), call 26458176.
Koinonia Coffee Roasters
The sexiest coffee roasters in town, Koinonia and its crew live on a slender street in Bandra’s Chuim Village and a walk through here is part of the experience. They don’t serve eggs or bread, but make your breakfast coffee run here to bump into cute freelancers. The affogato prepared using Bono’s salted caramel ice cream is like dessert that wakes you up; also take a batch of their cold brew bottles home.
66, Chuim Village, Khar (W), call 9619682668.
Indigo Deli
Not as busy as it used to be, Indigo Deli now has more space (perfect for breakfast meetings) and a dedicated bar should you need a crisp G&T in the am. The Deli’s sandwiches are reliable and their milkshakes can be prepared using house-made ice cream scoops.
8, Fatima Villa, 29th Road, Pali Naka, Bandra (W), 26438100.
Lunch
Kofuku
A weekday lunch at Kofuku will feel like a meal in a Japanese business district. Eat your maki rolls and miso soup surrounded by Japanese businessmen, and sip tiny cups of sake if your work break permits it.
6th floor, Suburbia Mall, above Shoppers Stop, Linking Road, Bandra (W), call 66955105.
The Blue
The Blue is Bandra’s new favourite colour. The size of a bento box, this five table restaurant serves comfort classics from Japan and Thailand (tom yam, green curry, udon noodles) along with a short and sweet sushi offering, which turns out to be one of the best raw bar experiences in the city. The braised duck is the star here, buoyed in a supporting role by coconut milk ice cream dessert.
Shop no 1, Sai Pooja Building, 16th Road, Khar (W), call 26000888.
Sequel
You might roll your eyes at this Himalayan salt-sprinkling bistro, but its claim to wholesomeness is backed with delicious, quality food. Eggs, salads, juices, smoothies and healthy bowls are on the menu here. If you’d like to fit in, slip into yoga pants and pretend it’s not a big deal that BFFs Sonam Kapoor and Jacqueline Fernandez are at the next table. Note: Less fussy (and also delicious) is Bombay Salad Co. next door.
Shop no.2, Solace, 33rd Road, Bandra (W), call 7506477710.
Dinner
Bastian
A faux crocodile guards this Bastian, where tuna poke bowls and lobster rolls, Singapore chilli crabs and deliciously made cocktails are fast selling out. Chefs Kelvin Cheung and Boo keep things fresh here, with a constantly evolving menu. bpb recommends getting Old Fashioneds on a Saturday night and returning for Sunday brunch which is quite marvelous.
B/1, New Kamal Building, Linking Road, Bandra (W), call 26420145.
Pali Bhavan
Here’s a lesson in how to make desi food sexy – dim lighting, gorgeous furniture and a bar that’s always prepared to take you from rasam to rum. bpb recommends you get the fish thecha, a bottle of red, and don’t be weirded out by all the faces in the photographs staring down at you.
10 Adarsh Nagar, Pali Naka, Bandra (W), call 26519400.
The Thal Co.
Nalli Nihari, raan biryani, kebabs, halwa and a lot more are served in 33-inch stainless steel plates that are shared by about eight people, community style. Welcome to The Thal Co, a restaurant that serves Bohri food by the thaal and a la carte as well. Rich! Remember, this is no place for vegetarians or those on a diet.
