Looking back on 2016 with Uber in Chennai

2016 has been an amazing year for us.

We launched uberPOOL this year and we celebrated Pongal with our riders. We delivered ice-cream bars and gold coins at your doorstep, gave football fans an experience of a lifetime, and planted saplings after Cyclone Vardah hit the city.

To say thank you and to celebrate our riders and drivers in 2016, we’re taking a look back at how you used Uber in Chennai this year. Check it out – what you learn may surprise you.

In the month of September, we launched uberPOOL in Chennai. Since then, we have saved close to 1.4 million kilometers by having more people in fewer cars. That’s roughly 4 trips to the moon!

Riders across India use Uber the most on Fridays and Saturdays. While in Chennai, riders mostly take an Uber between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM on Friday.

Riders were busy too! The most number of trips taken by a single rider in Chennai was 2693 trips. That’s around 7 trips a day

We love to travel! Top destinations for our riders in Chennai (no surprises here) is the airport. Another popular spot is T-Nagar, the shopping destination!
