Celebrating it’s first anniversary in Hong Kong this April, uberASSIST has become a reliable point to point transportation product for those in need, including and not limited to the physically impaired, elderly, the disabled, and expectant mothers. Ever since Uber Hong Kong launched this product officially in 2017, the platform has received over 60,000 uberASSIST bookings, a testament to how this product is of true demand in the market.

We know that there is a need, and we are always here to help. To ensure that people in need are able to enjoy the uberASSIST service to the fullest extent, Uber Hong Kong is proud to present “Uber With You” Community Program! The program sets aside HK$1 million to offer complimentary uberASSIST rides to beneficiaries of this program. From today onwards, non-profit organisations in Hong Kong are able to apply for this program and become one of our beneficiaries. Together, we can build a community with a seamless transportation mode for those in need, making moving around the city a reliable and accessible option.

“Uber With You” Community Program consists of an advisory board who will work alongside Uber Hong Kong’s General Manager in evaluating applications of this program. Members of the advisory board includes:

  • Mr. Erwin Huang, Associate Professor, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
  • Ms. Fai Li, Chairman of The Elderly Services Association of Hong Kong
  • Mr. Timothy Ma JP, Vice Chairman (External) of Hong Kong General Chamber of Social Enterprise Limited
  • Dr. Jeffrey Pong, Council Member of The Hong Kong Medical Association
  • Dr. Alice Tso, Vice Chair of Golden Age Foundation

Mr. Kenneth She, General Manager of Uber Hong Kong, says, “I would like to send my most heartfelt gratitude to the platform’s uberASSIST driver-partners and partnered organizations for their impeccable effort in serving uberASSIST riders, and for instilling their trust and support in the product.

With the aging population in Hong Kong, as well as a record of more than half a million disabled people in Hong Kong, Uber have worked relentlessly in the last year to look into ways to help improve point to point transportation access for this community. By launching ‘Uber With You’ Community Program, we hope it will connect us with organisations so we can join forces to make accessible transportation possible for people in need.”

There are currently 1,700 driver-partners registered on uberASSIST, all of which have received professional training from Bamboos Professional Nursing Education, Silence, and Hong Kong Blind Union, equipping driver-partners with basic sign language knowledge, skills required to assist disabled riders to board vehicles and handle foldable wheelchairs. All training and courses are endorsed by the Hong Kong Health Care Federation.

“Uber With You” Community Program offers complimentary uberASSIST rides to members of beneficiary groups. Interested parties can download the application form from http://t.uber.com/uberwithyou.  Applications must be submitted on or before 25th May, 2018.
