Uber Hong Kong has named the first day of the month uberSENIOR Day, a pilot program offering discounts to senior citizens on Uber trips and enabling them to experience a reliable, safe, and affordable way to get around the city.

On the first day of the month between September and December 2017, Uber will offer a HK$50 discount per trip taken by a senior citizen aged 65 or above, or a group of riders including a senior citizen, between 11am and 4pm.  The offer is limited to two rides per senior citizen in a promotional day.

Uber riders are entitled to this special concessionary fares by inputting the promocode “UBERSENIOR” in the app and showing the driver partner their senior citizen ID. All uberSENIOR rides will be at uberX prices.

“We are committed to being  a good corporate citizen, and providing transport solutions to a wide range of different social groups, especially the elderly,” said Uber HK General Manager Kenneth She. “We seek to make it easier than ever for the elderly to meet their families and friends, and to live their daily lives to the fullest.”

The demand for point-to-point local transport is crucial for senior citizens, whose population is expected to double to 30 per cent in 2039, from the 15 per cent in 2014, according to government projections.

The CW Day Care Nursing Centre acknowledged the crucial need for point-to-point transport in Hong Kong.

“Senior citizens have a huge need for point-to-point transport service. It is very difficult for them to make long trips to different places in the city,”  said Amy Sung, Development Director of CW Day Care Nursing Centre. “We are glad to see Uber is offering support to the senior community here. ”

Uber hopes uberSENIOR helps Hong Kong’s respected seniors a first-hand experience of a fun, reliable and safe way of getting around Hong Kong.

How it works:

  1. Open the Uber app
  2. Enter promo code UBERSENIOR in the Promotions tab
  3. Request a ride
  4. Show the senior citizen ID to driver-partner
  5. Each senior citizen will be entitled to a discount of HK$50 each for two trips from 11am to 4pm.   The offer is limited to two rides per senior citizen in a promotional day.
