For many in Hong Kong, getting around isn’t always easy due to accessibility or mobility challenges. Over 1 million people in the city have disabilities, including 170,000 with visually impairments.

To serve those with accessibility needs, Uber Hong Kong launched uberASSIST earlier this year, which provides  assistance to those needing  an extra hand. Today, we already have over 600 driver-partners who have been trained to safely and effectively provide uberASSIST services, and we aim to reach 1,000 by the end of this year. The Hong Kong Blind Union has been an integral partner in helping us train our uberASSIST driver-partners.

This week, we are partnering with the Hong Kong Blind Union to raise funds in support of their work for the visually impaired community. We are thankful for their support, and we look forward to doing more with them to help advance the rights of the visually impaired through this campaign.

Uber’s app is also specially designed for ease of use by those with visual impairments, featuring VoiceOver iOS compatibility, which can also be used in connection with a supported wireless braille display,
