Uber is always committed to improving the overall experience for driver-partners – and this year is no exception. Earlier this year, we launched enhanced safety features and improved pick-up drop-off experiences.
Additionally, we are looking at ways of increasing earning opportunities for you. Today, we introduce a new product line-up with the launch of Comfort and the all-new Black.
Introduction of Comfort

Comfort is a new product that provides a spacious and comfortable experience with exceptional service. The price of a Comfort trip is approximately 1.3 times the price of the same UberX trip, so eligible driver-partners will make more for each Comfort trip they take. In order to be eligible for Comfort trips, driver-partners will need to meet the following requirements:
- Maintain an average rating of 4.85 or above
- Complete at least 250 lifetime trips
- Drive an eligible vehicle manufactured within 7 years (in or after 2012)

New earning opportunities with Black and UberXL

Our all-new Black will be more luxurious and premium. We are now increasing the overall fare for Black trips. In order to be eligible for Black trips, driver-partners will need to meet the following requirements:
- Maintain an average rating of 4.85 or above
- Complete at least 100 lifetime trips
- Drive an eligible vehicle manufactured within 6 years (in or after 2013)

In line with the increase in fares for Black, we are also increasing the overall fare for our larger capacity vehicles, UberXL.
What other changes are we making?
Our refreshed product line-up allows for more choices, includes enhanced product features and introduces a new fare structure. We are introducing fare changes with two goals in mind: ensuring competitive prices to increase rider requests for every product, and boosting earning opportunities for driver-partners.
Changes on minimum fare for UberX, Flash, and Assist
Changes will be made to the minimum fare for UberX, Flash and Assist, however, distance and time rates as well as the base fare will remain the same. In some cities where we have introduced similar rates, we have seen an increase in rider requests by 10-20%. Our goal is to help you see the same benefits.
The new overall fare structure
*Not including booking fee
There may be changes to service fee applicable to each trip depending on the product. Details regarding any changes will be provided to applicable driver-partners. The service fee will be reflected in your in-app electronic statement for each trip.
Airport pricing change for UberX, Flash, and Assist
We want to make Airport trips more attractive for you. That’s why we have increased the minimum fare for all UberX, Flash and Assist trips which begin at the airport and made small changes to distance rates (during non-peak hours only). With this change, we hope to increase requests for trips from the airport by making trips more economical for riders during non-peak hours. In Hong Kong, experiments conducted using these new fares indicate that riders are 20% more likely to take a trip from the airport to the city – we expect this will mean more trips, and less wait time for driver-partners at the airport.
