Uber is committed to the safety of all road users. Driving for long periods can lead to fatigue, impairing concentration and increasing the risk of accidents.
Therefore, we have introduced a new safety feature in the Uber Driver App that allows driver partners to monitor their driving time through the app, avoiding drowsy driving and helping them stay safe on the road.
How the Driving Time Limit works
The app will note automatically whether your accumulated driving time reaches 12 hours within the past 72 hours and will reset when you are offline again for 6 consecutive hours or above.
Example:
- During the past 72 hours from now (dotted line), counting from the last offline break of 6 consecutive hours or above (red arrow), the accumulated driving time reaches 12 hours. Therefore, the app will now automatically disconnect you from the Uber driver app.

What counts towards my 12 hours of accumulated driving time?
- Time spent online while engaged in driving; and
- Time from accepting trip to trip completion.
For the safety of all road users, if your driving time reaches 12 hours within the past 72 hours, you will be automatically disconnected from the Uber driver app for 6 consecutive hours. If you are on a trip that puts you over the 12-hour limit, you will be able to continue driving until the trip is completed. After the trip ends, you’ll be disconnected.
After you have taken a 6-hour break, your driving time will reset and you’ll be able to go back online to receive new ride requests.
How do I check how much driving time I have left?
- Tap See driving time at the bottom of the home screen.

Break reminder
You will be notified when your driving time reaches 10 hours, 10.5 hours, and 11.5 hours. After you have been offline for 6 hours, your time will reset and you’ll be able to go back online.

Tips to avoid drowsy driving
- Get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep every day. Avoid drinking caffeinated or alcoholic beverages within 4 hours of your bedtime
- If you feel drowsy when driving, find a safe place to stop and rest before continuing.
