How Uber Eats & Restaurants Support Muslims Observing Ramadan
Ramadan is a sacred month observed by 3.9 million Muslims in the UK, centered on fasting, reflection, and community. At its core, Ramadan is about togetherness – bringing people closer through shared meals and acts of generosity. This year, over 1,800 restaurant partners on Uber Eats played a crucial role in supporting the Muslim community, ensuring those fasting had access to meals when they needed them most.
Strengthening Community Through Food
Food has always been a powerful way to bring people together, and during Ramadan, this is even more meaningful. Through the ‘Open for Suhoor’ campaign, restaurants extended their hours on the Uber Eats platform, making it easier for people to find meals before dawn. To help customers find Suhoor options, merchants could add Suhoor badges to the storefront within the app and selected partners displayed special signage on their physical storefronts.
Additionally, we partnered with restaurant partners to launch special Iftar offers, helping eaters save while enjoying their favorite meals when breaking fast. From February 28 to March 06, eaters enjoyed £5 off when spending at participating merchants between 4:30 PM and midnight. Chaiiwala took the spotlight with an exclusive spend £20, save £7 offer, making it even easier for customers to enjoy their signature dishes.
Giving Back to Couriers
Beyond Iftar offers and staying open late for customers, participating restaurants also provided free Iftar meals to couriers working through Ramadan. This gesture ensured that those delivering meals to others also had something nourishing to break their fast.
A Collective Effort for Inclusivity
While the initiatives helped drive more sales, its real success was in bringing people together and fostering inclusivity. The strong participation from restaurant partners shows how businesses can come together to celebrate and uplift diverse cultures, making a positive impact on their communities.
