Uber Freight’s 2019 year in review

January 6 / Global

It’s hard to believe that 2019 is already in the rearview mirror. Rapid innovation, for both carriers and shippers, continued to positively transform trucking this year. At Uber Freight, we are proud to help lead the way in leveraging technology to solve the industry’s toughest problems.

Below, we’ve captured some of our biggest moments from last year. From product launches to expansion into new markets, we continued to set the pace of change across freight.

Facility ratings: a first-of-its-kind

In January 2019, we added facility ratings to the Uber Freight carrier app. This feature enabled drivers the ability to leave star ratings and reviews about facilities they visited. An industry-first, data from facility ratings can also be used by shippers to improve their operations to help build stronger carrier relationships.

Celebrating women in trucking

In observance of National Women’s History Month, Uber Freight featured women drivers on our blog and social media channels all through March. We profiled Desiree Wood, founder of REAL Women in Trucking, and talked with Shelle Lichti, driver and LGBTQIA+ rights activist. Uber Freight also teamed up with Woman in Trucking at several events to celebrate women throughout the year.

Our web portal goes live

With the launch of the new Uber Freight web portal, we made it easier for dispatchers, fleet owners, and owner-operators to run their businesses. Now users can find and book loads, assign and reassign loads, and much more, all through a standard internet browser.

Uber Freight goes global

In the spring of 2019, Uber Freight launched operations in Europe, starting in the Netherlands, then expanding into Germany and Poland. Later in the year, we launched in Canada with service in Ontario and Quebec, enabling cross-border shipments.

Bringing together shippers

In September, we held our annual conference for shippers, Deliver 19. The 3-day event took place in San Francisco and brought together some of the most influential shippers in the country. It also featured presentations from top industry thinkers and Uber Freight leadership about challenges and opportunities in today’s market.

The release of the inaugural Facility Insights Report

Six months after launching facility ratings in the carrier app, Uber Freight published its first Facility Insights Report. Based on more than 250,000 facility ratings and written comments from drivers, the report detailed carrier preferences, identified industry trends, and examined problems facing shippers. Look for the second edition of the Facility Insights Report in January of this year.

Powerloop expands to California

In 2019, Powerloop expanded operations into California. Uber Freight’s affiliated trailer company will continue to bring the advantages of power-only loads to more carriers and shippers beyond Texas and Oklahoma.

A new Uber Freight HQ is announced

We’re in this business for the long haul. The proof: our plan to build a new headquarters based in Chicago. This is a major investment in new personnel, real estate, and the future of trucking.

TMS integrations aplenty

We made big strides in helping enterprise shippers access reliable capacity thanks to partnerships with some of the most popular TMS providers—SAP and MercuryGate. Through these integrations, MercuryGate and SAP can provide its users instant visibility into Uber Freight’s real-time pricing and guaranteed capacity for their freight lanes.

All in all, 2019 was a year of tremendous growth for our company. To all the carriers and shippers that use Uber Freight, thank you for your confidence in us. We look forward to rolling with you in 2020!
