At Uber, everyone’s safety is important to us. If your drivers have a dashcam, they can register them in the Uber app to make it simple for riders to know that the vehicle has one installed and to make it even easier to share recordings with the Uber Support team in the event of a safety incident.
In cases of rider reports made against the driver, you will be able to submit footage should the driver wish to rebut any relevant allegations.
Uber will notify riders if drivers have registered a dashcam. If riders don’t want to be recorded, they will have the option to cancel freely and request a new trip with a different driver. This will not impact star ratings and no cancellation fees will be charged.
This new feature demonstrates our commitment and ongoing efforts to raise the bar on safety standards across the industry.
Process for your drivers to register the dashcam:
- Press the Account tab
- Choose App Settings
- Select ‘Video Recording’
- Click ‘Register’ and then select your current vehicle to register your dashcam
- Please remember footage uploaded should relate to the trip and the relevant safety issue only.
As the owner of the dashcam, you are responsible for the dashcam and how you and your driver use it, for any footage you or your drivers record. Please make sure to check and adhere to local regulations including privacy and local authority requirements. You may find relevant guidance on German privacy rules here: („Konferenz der unabhängigen Datenschutzbehörden des Bundes und der Länder (Datenschutzkonferenz). Datenlizenz Deutschland – Namensnennung – Version 2.0)
- For example you are responsible for providing riders with information about your dashcam usage, including e.g. in-car signage that provides information for riders, such as how to contact the driver or fleet partner. For an example of what such notice could look like in Germany, please see here
- In cases where safety reports with video footage are submitted, Uber will contact the rider to inform them footage has been received.
- Please only upload footage from the relevant trip and safety incident in question – add as much information about the driver and trip to the support request as possible.
