8 August 2014 / Dusseldorf
Düsseldorf, get Uber excited because your uberPOP has finally arrived!
We love Düsseldorf because it’s not only an amazing place to shop and get inspired by world class fashion designers, but it’s also an innovative hub full of ideas, movement, art and lifestyle.
After we successfully introduced uberPOP to Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and Frankfurt, the time has come to start moving people around Düsseldorf in an even faster, better and more community like manner.
What is uberPOP?

Rider ZERO: SELIM Varol
Whenever Uber launches a new city, we look for a person that best represents the pulse of that city. That person is also the first one to flip open the app, request a ride and hop into an Uber. In Dusseldorf, we immediately thought of Selim Varol!
Hardly anyone knows the city as well as he does and he perfectly impersonates the spirit of pop culture (and by that, we mean not only uberPOP). He is an innovative businessman, a great host and a passionate art collector with one of the largest plastic figure collections in the world. His urban art collection now includes about 15,000 characters and can be admired and purchased in Toykio – a hybrid of gallery, café and shop . If you want to taste the best bagels and finest coffee in town, definitely pay this guy a visit!
Besides Toykio, Selim has one of the trendiest burger restaurants in Düsseldorf: it’s called What’s Beef. Since its opening people of Düsseldorf don’t seem to be getting enough of this place. This is why it is planning to expand to Berlin and Hamburg very soon (we see some parallels to Uber).
“I drive a Tesla myself and I will not only register as a rider but also as a driver. First time I heard of Uber was in New York two years go. You just can’t get around using Uber when you’re in the States. Innovative companies such as Uber are a great addition to urban mobility and a true asset for all mankind.” Selim tells us with a grin on his face.
So keep the app ready, because with a little luck, you could soon be sharing a ride with the man himself… in a Tesla…
On top of all this, Selim shares his insider tips:
Of course Toykio for coffee & sweets and What’s Beef for burgers. But also Yomaro for Frozen Yogurt, Restaurant Primitivo for great dishes and a glass of wine and Maruyasu for sushi. For art lovers Selim recommends the K20 & K21, where almost all exhibitions are worth seeing.
We say, ready, set, uberPOP!
