Piloting estimated earnings per active hour on trip requests

March 10 / Chile

We are piloting the introduction of estimated earnings per active hour on trip requests in a few cities in Chile, Argentina, and Mexico.

When choosing to accept a trip request, drivers consider many factors such as fare, distance, and time. Estimated earnings per active hour is a simple way to compare trips requests that you receive.

How it works

Starting in April 2025, drivers will begin to see an earnings per active hour badge on trip requests. This includes both Trip Radar requests and Exclusive requests.

What is an “active hour”?

An active hour is the time you spend engaged on a given trip, including the time spent getting the pickup location, waiting for the rider, and completing the trip. It does not include time spent online while waiting for a trip request.

How is estimated earnings per active hour calculated?

Estimated earnings per active hour tells you how much you would earn if the trip you’re considering lasted a full hour. It’s calculated by:

  1. Starting with the upfront trip fare for the offer
  2. Dividing it by the total estimated time needed to:
    • Drive to the pickup location
    • Wait at pickup
    • Complete the trip
  3. Multiplying that per-minute rate by 60 minutes to get the estimated earnings per active hour

We include 1 minute wait time at pickup which is rounded from the national average.

Why is this a good way to compare trips?

Estimated earnings per active hour is a benchmark allowing you to quickly compare trip requests to one another, even if they differ in duration. It only includes the time spent on a trip—not the time waiting between rides—which gives you a more consistent way to evaluate different trip requests..
