Today, we’re launching the new and improved uberWAV in Toronto at 1pm. uberWAV is our wheelchair accessible vehicle option, connecting riders with paratransit drivers in vehicles that are equipped with hydraulic ramps or lifts.

To ensure uberWAV has the reliability our riders have come to expect with the Uber app, we’ve partnered with Dignity Transportation, a private company with a fleet of accessible vehicles and well-trained drivers.

And the best part? uberWAV is now priced the same as uberX – about 40% cheaper than traditional taxis and wheelchair accessible taxis!

This new uberWAV price point was a direct result of our fact-finding Accessibility Transportation forum that we held with OCAD’s Inclusive Design Institute back in November. It was there that we dug in with community members and leaders to think about how we could improve upon the existing uberWAV option. The goal being to increase the availability of reliable and affordable mobility options for Torontonians with accessibility needs.

  1. Open your Uber app (If you don’t have Uber, click here)
  2. Slide to over to the ACCESS option and select uberWAV
  3. Set your location and request your ride
  4. Meet your driver (either a WAV taxi or Dignity Transportation driver) curb-side and enjoy your ride!

“Dignity Transportation is pleased to be partnering with Uber in their efforts to improve transportation for everyone. We can finally provide a less expensive on demand service with the same high level of quality we have been providing since 1990.”‘

– Jeff Pasoff, Owner of Dignity Transportation

“uberWAV serves as another option for People With Disabilities who have been neglected in the area of transportation when needing a way to get around. I have already had a chance to use uberWAV and find it an efficient and cost-effective mode of transportation. Cheers to progress in 2016 and another option!”

– Leesa Levinson, Founder & Executive Director, Lights, Camera, Access!

“As someone with a disability engaged in creating a more accessible world, I am thrilled to support uberWAV. My company, AccessNow, shares information on the accessibility of places, but what about the commute? Transportation is a critical component to creating a seamless accessible experience. With innovators like Uber and AccessNow, we are building a culture of inclusion to solve barriers we all face at some point in our lives.”

– Maayan Ziv, Founder of AccessNow

We’re dedicated to increasing the mobility, efficiency and freedom of all riders and drivers with accessibility needs. Please see here for further details about Uber’s Accessibility offering in Toronto for the deaf and hard of hearing, blind or visually impaired, and older adults.
