Friday, July 29 will mark the last day of service for uberHOP in Toronto. After running this pilot for nearly 7 months, we’ve learned a ton that will shape how we design and develop our carpooling option—uberPOOL. Since January, many Torontonians have been relying on uberPOOL for an affordable, door-to-door commute. By making it easy and affordable for commuters to carpool, we hope to get more people into fewer cars and help reduce congestion and pollution in Toronto.
uberHOP is a new option that lets you to share your trip with other commuters along Toronto’s most popular routes during peak times. uberHOP will be available along fixed routes for flat fares less than $4.50. uberHOP gives you the convenience and reliability that you love about Uber, at a price lower than ever.
With a new product, there comes a lot of questions. We hope we have you covered below! If not, connect with us on Twitter at @Uber_Canada or email us at support@uber.com.
HOW DOES UBERHOP WORK?
uberHOP works similar to our other options with few key differences:
- Routes, pickup, and dropoff spots are predetermined
- The routes are point to point, with only one dropoff
- Each rider needs to walk to the pickup
- The fare is flat
- Since we want to be courteous to the other riders, your driver will only wait the scheduled time provided in the app
- You won’t be able to contact your driver to make alternative arrangements
The routes available now cost a flat fare less than $4.50 each way. Here’s the breakdown by route:
$3.50 routes:
CityPlace [removed] Financial District
Distillery District [removed] Financial District
$4.00 route:
Fort York [removed] Financial District
Upper Jarvis [removed] Financial District
Liberty Village –> John/Adelaide
$4.50 route:

DOES SURGE PRICING APPLY TO UBERHOP?
Nope. uberHOP is all about delivering a flat rate. Surge pricing won’t apply.
CAN I BRING OTHER PEOPLE?
If you want to ride with a friend, make sure they request their own spot on uberHOP from their app.
HOW ARE MY CO-RIDERS CHOSEN?
Co-riders are matched according to the routes they select in the app.
WHAT TYPE OF CAR WILL I GET?
You’ll share larger vehicles that are otherwise available on uberXL or UberSUV.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE? WILL I GO OUT OF MY WAY?
Your ride will be from point A to point B, but you’ll need to walk to the predetermined pickup spot. You’ll only have to wait the scheduled time given to you in the app, which will be 10 minutes or less. If no one else selects the same route as you, you’ll get a solo ride at the flat rate.
HOW LONG WILL THE DRIVER WAIT? WHAT IF I DON’T MAKE IT TO THE PICKUP SPOT IN TIME?
Please be ready to walk to meet your driver as soon as you request. As a courtesy to your co-riders, your driver will only wait the scheduled time given in the app. If you don’t make it to the pickup spot in time, you’ll need to request again to get a seat on the next uberHOP.
CAN I BRING LUGGAGE? PETS?
Yes, you can. But remember there will need to be room for more people and their belongings in the car. We ask that you don’t bring pets (except service animals, of course).
WHAT HAPPENS IF I CANCEL?
When you request uberHOP, you’re making a commitment to both your co-riders and the driver. Cancellations damage both of their experiences, so please don’t leave them hanging!
CAN I CHANGE MY DESTINATION OR PICKUP LOCATION?
Nope. Pickup locations and destination spots are predetermined. You can find the routes that uberHOP is serving here.
WHY ISN’T UBERHOP SHOWING UP IN MY APP?
If you have trouble loading the routes, try updating your Uber app. You can also try closing and re-opening the app.
HOW DO I REPORT ISSUES?
Email us at support@uber.com or reply back to your emailed receipt after your ride.
