Uber has helped serve our local community for years, operating under pilot projects. This past weekend, the government implemented new regulations, making ridesharing a permanent service.
While this news comes at a time when our province is experiencing a second COVID-19 wave, we are proud to continue offering an essential service and help Quebecers move what matters.
As a result of the new regulations, here are some changes you should expect:
More affordable pricing
Thanks to the new regulations, Uber is becoming more affordable. For instance, a standard trip in Montreal of 15 minutes and 7 km goes from $15.51 to $14.00.
Note that the base, time and distance which are the source of driver per trip earnings have not been modified.
More transparent pricing
Before requesting a ride, you want to know exactly what you’ll pay—that’s why, starting today, we’re introducing upfront pricing on all rides in the province of Quebec.
Simply enter your destination as usual and you’ll see the exact price before you request a ride instead of an estimated price range*.
No surprises or complicated math. You decide what’s best for you and your budget.
*You will be notified and the trip fare will be adjusted if the trip is significantly shorter or longer than projected, notably if your pickup location or drop-off location is different than the one indicated at the time the ride is requested, or if the itinerary changes. You can also go to the Help menu with any fare related questions or concerns.
Your safety is a top priority
We must all do our part to reduce COVID-19 cases, but we know some trips are important. Know that your safety and the safety of others using the Uber platform remain a top priority.
Everyone—all riders and drivers—must wear a mask when using Uber. Our Mask Verification technology helps ensure everyone is following this policy. We are also providing health and safety supplies to drivers.
Follow 3 simple steps on every ride:
- Wash or sanitize your hands
- Wear a face cover or mask
- Air out your ride
