More often, people are letting their much-needed outside time fall by the wayside. With the summer sun shining and all of the incredible events happening in Montreal this month, you’ll have no trouble soaking up the rays and getting the essential vitamin D you need.

What to do outside this summer in Montreal

The Village au Pied-du-Courant is an innovative public space that serves as a breeding ground to channel the community’s creative spark. Described as an urban lab, the Village is a stage where professionals and organisations can put together events, promote new practices of design, and bring together Montreal’s dynamic energy and diversity. Best of all? Access is free of charge.

When: Thursday-Sunday, until September 16

Where: At the Jacques- Cartier Bridge, facing the St. Lawrence River

Every day and night of the week, extending until October 15, Jardins Gamelin will put on an assortment of activities and attractions geared at the education, entertainment, and leisure pursuits of the Montreal public. You can enjoy an outdoor restaurant, programmes such as outdoor yoga, and the scenic greenery of the garden grounds. Check the official website for the complete roster of attractions.

When: Various dates

Where: 1500 Berri Street

The scope of this city-wide project is a wonder to behold. Cité Mémoire seeks to reimagine how you experience history. To that end, the Montréal en Histoires devised an ingenious plan to take over the city in an interactive approach to evoke Montreal’s rich history. Old Montreal has been taken over and its buildings and cobblestones are used as the surface upon which projections will shine. A mobile app is a tool to activate the projections in the designated spots. This newfound way to explore the marvels of the city is sure to enthuse people of all ages.

When: Every day

Mount Royal Park is Montreal’s crown jewel as far as city parks go. Frederick Law Olmstead, famous for his work on Central Park in New York City, worked on the original landscape. Enjoy the breathtaking vista from the Belvedere Camillien-Houde. On Sunday, you can catch the Tam Tam Mont Royal, a drumming sensation.

When: Every day

Where: Mount Royal Park

The massive lawns of the Lafontaine Park in the heart of Montreal give way to a gorgeous pond that features a small bridge. This is the perfect spot to sunbathe, jog, or go cycling. Another perk is the park is an idyllic picnic location. Watch out for the duck population and, as hard as it may be, do your best not to feed the little critters.

When: Every day, 6am – midnight

Where: Between Sherbrooke, Papineau, Rachel and Lafontaine Park Avenue

The Old Port is another one of Montreal’s charming historical destinations. A large number of events take place there, especially during the summer months. One of the best sightseeing destinations, the Clock Tower, is closed for the time being. Still, you can experience the Beach of the Clock, where you can enjoy the feel of the tropics without setting foot outside of Montreal. The Old Port also has a superb food variety.

When: Every day

Where: Clock tower

Montreal is truly privileged when it comes to rooftop terrace locations. You can find a location to suit your every taste, whether it’s for a dining experience, a night out for drinks, or maybe even both. We recommend the Terrasse Place d’Armes, an excellent rooftop bar with a terrific view.

When: Every day

Where: 55 Saint-Jacques Street

The Quartier des Spectacles is Montreal’s entertainment district. The one-kilometre square is home to the most vibrant parties and festivals in the city. Each year, the Quartiers hosts over 40 festivals spread across its 8 venues. No matter what day of the year you go out, there’ll be something waiting for you at the Montreal cultural centre.

When: Every day

Where: Quartier des Spectacles

Every Sunday this summer, you can go out and find first-class electronic music at this weekly electronic music festival. The lineup in July will feature artists such as Roman Flügel, Lost Heroes, Shanti Celeste, Agata Jasper, Spindeman, and many other big names in EDM. Visit the event website to secure your passes.

When: Every Sunday until September 24

Where: Plaine des Jeux at Parc Jean-Drapeau, 296 Chemin du Tour de l’isle

Whether you’re scavenging the city for parks, searching for a great outdoors hangout, or looking to enjoy live entertainment, there is no shortage of open-air attractions in Montreal.
