How long have you been driving with Uber?

I started my journey with Uber on November 2016. So that would be 1 year 10 months now!

Tell us a little about yourself and your background.

I come from a poverty-ridden family with 5 siblings. After my father passed away, we had to face a lot of hardships, and I learned driving during my teen years.

I am married and have two children. Before joining Uber, I used to work as an operator for a textile company for 3 years, but there were lots of pressure and the working hours were long, so I had been looking for a career switch. That’s when I heard about Uber, and my life has changed since!

How has your life changed due to Uber?

Uber has changed my life in a lot of ways, actually. I can work without pressure and still earn a lot – even up to BDT 25000 per week! On another note, my interpersonal skills have increased too as I had to learn how to adapt and speak with different people.

What is your favourite thing about driving with Uber?

What I really love is that I am not under any pressure. If I work hard, I’ll get the returns I deserve. I can work whenever I want instead of having to work specific hours. And I have maintained my trips in a manner that my riders have no complains either.

Is there any memorable Uber trip that you’d like to tell us about?

There’s one trip that holds a special place in my heart.

One night in December 2016 at 10:30PM, I received a trip request. The rider called me and informed that his mother had fallen ill suddenly, and needed to be hospitalized immediately. Hearing this, I rushed to his pick-up location. I helped the man carry his mother down to the car and I drove fast to the hospital. The rider asked me to wait for 10 minutes, which I did willingly. 10 minutes later, he came down and embraced me. When he tried to thank me, he was in tears. He said that he couldn’t thank me enough and would always pray for me.

It was then that I realized the impact of what we do here with Uber, and I developed a loyalty for Uber.

How did you earn so many 5 star ratings?

As a service provider, I greet my riders with salaam and use the navigation option to reach their location. I don’t ask for their destinations before the trip starts. After the trip starts, I maintain a good behavior with my riders and inform them that we would be using the route suggested as per the Uber app, unless the rider states otherwise. Lastly, after the trip has completed at the rider’s destination, I bid them farewell and wish them a good day.

Do you have any advice for Uber driver-partners?

Yes. I believe that if you are honest, hardworking and patient, you can overcome any obstacles and be a successful driver-partner at Uber. Our riders are our customers and as service providers, we need to ensure reliable and safe trips for them.

আপনি কতদিন ধরে Uber এ গাড়ি চালাচ্ছেন?

Uber এর সাথে আমার যাত্রা ২০১৬ সালের নভেম্বর মাস থেকে। আমি ১ বছর ১০ মাস ধরে Uber এর সাথে আছি।

আপনার সম্পর্কে  আমাদের কিছু বলুন।

পাঁচ ভাই-বোনের দরিদ্র এক পরিবারে আমার জন্ম। বাবা মারা যাওয়ার পরের সময়টা আমাদের অনেক কষ্ট করতে হয়েছে এবং সেই কিশোর বয়সেই আমার গাড়ি চালানোতে হাতেখড়ি।

এখন আমি বিবাহিত এবং দুই সন্তানের বাবা। Uber এ যোগ দেয়ার আগে আমি একটি টেক্সটাইল কোম্পানি তে অপারেটর হিসেবে ৩ বছর কাজ করেছি। কিন্তু সেখানে কাজের চাপ ছিল অনেক বেশি এবং দিনের অনেক বড় একটা সময় কাজের মধ্যে চলে যেত। তাই আমি অনেক দিন ধরেই চাকরি পরিবর্তনের কথা ভাবছিলাম। তখনই Uber সম্পর্কে জানতে পারি এবং এরপর থেকেই আমার জীবনে বিশাল এক পরিবর্তন চলে এসেছে।

Uber আপনার জীবনে কেমন পরিবর্তন এনেছে?

আসলে Uber অনেকভাবেই আমার জীবনে প্রভাব রেখেছে। আমি এখন কোনো বাড়তি চাপ ছাড়াই অনেক বেশি আয় করতে পারছি। এমনকি সপ্তাহে ২৫,০০০ টাকা পর্যন্ত আয় করা যায়! অন্যদিকে বিভিন্ন ধরণের মানুষের সাথে মেলামেশা ও কথা বলা শিখতে পেরেছি Uber এর মাধ্যমে।

Uber এ গাড়ি চালানোর ক্ষেত্রে আপনার সবচেয়ে প্রিয় দিক কোনটি?

আমার যেটা সবচেয়ে বেশি ভালো লাগে সেটা হলো যে আমাকে এখন আর কোনো বাড়তি চাপের মাঝে থাকতে হয় না। আমি যদি বেশি কাজ করি, আমি আমার প্রাপ্য ফলাফলটিই পাবো। কোনো নির্দিষ্ট সময়ে কাজ না করে আমি যখন ইচ্ছা তখন কাজ করতে পারছি। আমি আমার ট্রিপগুলো এমনভাবে চালাই যেন আমার যাত্রীদেরও কোনো অভিযোগ না থাকে।

আপনার কি কোনো স্মরণীয় Uber ট্রিপ আছে যা আমাদের সাথে শেয়ার করতে চান?

একটা ট্রিপ আছে যা আমার এখনো মনে পরে।

২০১৬ সালের ডিসেম্বর মাসের এক রাতে, ১০:৩০ এর দিকে, আমি একটা ট্রিপ রিকুয়েস্ট পাই। যাত্রী আমাকে কল করলেন এবং জানালেন যে তার মা হঠাৎ অসুস্থ হয়ে পড়েছেন এবং তার মা কে এক্ষনি হাসপাতালে নিতে হবে। এটা শুনার পর আমি যত দ্রুত সম্ভব pick-up লোকেশনে যাই। আমি লোকটাকে তার মাকে গাড়িতে উঠতে সাহায্য করি এবং দ্রুত হাসপাতালে যাই। যাত্রীর অনুরোধে আমি খুশি মনেই ১০ মিনিট সেখানে অপেক্ষা করি। ১০ মিনিট পরে যাত্রী নিচে এসে আমাকে জড়িয়ে ধরেন। তিনি অশ্রুসিক্ত হয়ে আমাকে ধন্যবাদ দেন এবং বলেন যে তিনি আমার জন্য সবসময় দোয়া করবেন।

ওই মুহূর্তে আমি সত্যিকার অর্থে বুঝতে পারি যে আমরা Uber এ যে কাজটা করছি, তার প্রভাবটা আসলে কতটুকু। তখন থেকেই Uber এর প্রতি আমার এক আনুগত্য কাজ করে।

আপনি এতগুলো ৫ স্টার রেটিং কিভাবে পেলেন?

একজন সেবা দানকারী হিসেবে আমি আমার যাত্রীকে শুরুতেই সালাম দেই এবং তাদের গন্তব্যে পৌঁছানোর জন্য ন্যাভিগেশন ব্যবহার করি। ট্রিপ শুরুর আগে আমি তাদের গন্তব্য জানতে চাই না। ট্রিপ শুরু হওয়ার পরে আমি যাত্রীদের সাথে ভালো ব্যবহার বজায় রাখি এবং তাদের জানিয়ে দেই যে Uber app এ যে পথ দেখাচ্ছে, আমরা সেই পথ অনুসরণ করে যাবো যদিনা যাত্রী অন্য কোনো রাস্তা দিয়ে যেতে চান। অবশেষে, ট্রিপ শেষ হওয়ার পরে আমি যাত্রীদের সুন্দরভাবে বিদায় জানাই।

Uber এর ড্রাইভার-পার্টনারদের জন্য আপনার জন পরামর্শ আছে?

জি। আমার বিশ্বাস আপনি যদি সৎ, পরিশ্রমী আর ধৈর্য্যশীল হোন, আপনি যেকোনো বাধা অতিক্রম করতে পারবেন এবং Uber এ একজন সফল ড্রাইভার-পার্টনার হতে পারবেন। আমার যাত্রীরা হলেন আমাদের কাস্টমার এবং সেবা দানকারী হিসেবে যাত্রীদের জন্য নির্ভরশীল ও নিরাপদ যাত্রা নিশ্চিত করা আমাদের কর্তব্য।
