Tell us something about yourself.

I hail from Barguna. Nine years ago, I moved to Dhaka with my family. I live with my parents and wife in Mohammadpur. My father is a service holder. I was a bike lover since childhood. Back in my hometown, we could rent motorcycles to learn. I would rent bikes and learn how to drive properly. I worked in various private driving jobs since then.

How did you decide to drive with Uber?

A friend of mine was driving UberMOTO. I saw how high his earnings were, so I decided to buy a bike myself and drive with Uber. At that point I still had my old job, and was only driving UberMOTO in my free time. But once I saw the earning opportunities at Uber, I decided to quit my job and start driving on Uber full time.

How do you think Uber has changed your life?

There are two aspects to this – one is my income, and the other is my personal life. At Uber, my investment is low but the rewards are high. I earn much more than I made in my last job. As a result, I can provide for my family better.

On the other hand, I get a lot of free time driving with Uber. I usually start working early in the morning, and drive till 11:30 AM. Then I go home for lunch. After that, I leave home at 1:00 PM and drive till 7:00 PM. As a result, I get to spend more time with my family. Due to the flexibility of the work, my personal life has improved as well.

What’s your family’s view on you driving UberMOTO?

Initially they were worried because I was quitting my job, and also because they were concerned about my safety. But once they realized that I was driving carefully, earning more, and was able to spend more time with them, they became very supportive of my profession.

What do you like the most about Uber?

I like the accuracy of Uber’s fares. If I ever get lower fares somehow, I can call Uber and Uber pays me the remaining amount. Besides, Uber riders are well behaved and empathetic.

Why do you think your riders like you so much?

I think carefulness is the key. A bike driver needs to be very careful while driving, and I follow that. My riders’ safety is of high priority to me, and I offer them helmets too. Moreover, how I behave with my customers is also important. I believe these create a good impression, for which they like me and rate me high.

Would you like to say anything to our driver-partners and riders?

Yes. To the driver-partners, please drive carefully and take special care of your riders. While on a trip, don’t quarrel with others as it ruins the rider’s Uber experience. To the riders, please use helmets, as it is important for your safety. Let’s all be more aware about road safety and act accordingly.

আমি বরগুনা থেকে ঢাকায় এসেছি ৯ বছর আগে। এখন আমি ঢাকার মোহাম্মদপুরে বাবা, মা এবং আমার স্ত্রীকে নিয়ে যৌথ পরিবারে থাকি। আমার বাবা একজন চাকুরীজীবি। আমি ছোটবেলা থেকেই বাইক চালাতে পছন্দ করতাম। আমাদের এলাকায় বাইক ভাড়া করা যেত চালানো শিখার জন্য। সেখান থেকেই আমি বাইক ভাড়া করে চালানো শিখি। এরপর বিভিন্ন প্রাইভেট গাড়ি চালানোর কাজে যুক্ত ছিলাম।

আপনি Uber এ চালানোর সিদ্ধান্ত নিলেন কিভাবে?

আমার পরিচিত এক বড় ভাই UberMOTO চালাতেন। উনার অনেক ভালো আয় হতো যা দেখে আমিও আগ্রহী হই এবং নিজের একটা বাইক কিনে Uber-এ চালানো শুরু করি। তখন ও আমার প্রাইভেট গাড়ি চালানোর চাকরিটা চালিয়ে যাচ্ছিলাম এবং অবসর সময়ে UberMOTO চালাতাম। কিন্তু যখন দেখলাম যে UberMOTO তে আয়ের সুযোগ অনেক, তখন আমি আমার আগের চাকরিটা ছেড়ে দিয়ে পুরোপুরিভাবে Uber এ বাইক চালাতে শুরু করি।

আপনার মতে Uber কিভাবে আপনার জীবনে পরিবর্তন এনেছে?

প্রথমত, Uber-এ কম বিনিয়োগের বিপরীতে আমার আয় বেশি হচ্ছে। আমার আগের চাকরির তুলনায় আমি এখন মাসে অনেক বেশি আয় করতে পারছি।

দ্বিতীয়ত, Uber-এ চালানোর ফলে আমি অনেক অবসর সময় পাচ্ছি। আমি সাধারণত অনেক সকালে কাজে বেরিয়ে পড়ি এবং দুপুরে সর্বচ্চো ১১:৩০ এর মধ্যে বাসায় চলে আসি। বাসায় দুপুরের খাবার খেয়ে আবার ১ টার দিকে বেরিয়ে পড়ি এবং সন্ধ্যা ৭ টা পর্যন্ত বাইক চালাই। এর ফলে আমার পরিবারকে আমি এখন আরো অনেক বেশি সময় দিতে পারছি। নিজের কাজের সময় নিজে বেছে নিতে পারার এই স্বাধীনতার কারণে আমার ব্যক্তিগত জীবন এখন অনেক উন্নত হয়েছে।

Uber-এ বাইক চালানোর বিষয়টাকে আপনার পরিবার কিভাবে দেখছে?

শুরুরদিকে তারা অনেক দুশ্চিন্তা করতেন কারণ আমি আমার চাকরি ছেড়ে দিচ্ছিলাম। তাছাড়া আমার নিরাপত্তা নিয়েও ভাবতেন। কিন্তু যখন দেখলেন আমি সতর্কতার সাথে চালাচ্ছি, বেশি আয় করছি এবং তাদেরকে বেশি সময় দিতে পারছি, তখন থেকে তারা আমার এই সিদ্ধান্তকে সমর্থন করছেন।

Uber-এর কোন জিনিসটা আপনার সবচেয়ে বেশি ভালো লাগে?

Uber-এ ভাড়ার যথার্থতা আমার সবচেয়ে বেশি ভালো লাগে। আমি যদি কখনো কম ভাড়া পাই, সাথে সাথে তা কল করে Uber কে জানতে পারি এবং Uber দ্রুত তা পরিশোধ করে দেয়। তাছাড়া Uber-এ যাত্রীরাও অনেক ভদ্র ও সহানুভূতিশীল আচরণ করে থাকেন।

আপনার যাত্রীরা আপনাকে কেন এতো পছন্দ করেন বলে আপনার মনে হয়?

আমার মতে সাবধানতাটাই সবচেয়ে বড় কথা। একজন বাইক ড্রাইভার এর উচিত বাইক চালানোর সময় সবসময় সতর্ক থাকা এবং আমি সেটাই করি। আমার যাত্রীর নিরাপত্তা আমার কাছে সবচেয়ে বেশি অগ্রাধিকার পায় এবং আমি তাদেরকে হেলমেট দেই যাত্রার সময় পরার জন্য। এছাড়াও আমি আমার যাত্রীদের সাথে কিভাবে আচরণ করছি, সেটাও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। আমি বিশ্বাস করি যে এই বিষয়গুলো যাত্রীদের কাছে একটি ভালো পরিচয় তুলে ধরে। যার ফলে যাত্রীরাও আমাকে পছন্দ করেন এবং ভালো রেটিং দেন।

আপনি কি আমাদের অন্যান্য ড্রাইভার বা রাইডারদের জন্য কিছু বলতে চান?

জ্বি। ড্রাইভারদের উদ্দেশ্যে বলব যে অনুগ্ৰহ করে সাবধানতার সাথে চালাবেন এবং রাইডারদের প্রতি বিশেষ যত্ন নিবেন। ট্রিপ চলাকালীন সময়ে যাত্রীদের সাথে ঝগড়া করবেন না কারণ তাতে যাত্রীদের Uber অভিজ্ঞতাটা খারাপ হবে। আর যাত্রীদের জন্য বলবো যে অবস্যই হেলমেট পরবেন কারণ তা আপনার নিরাপত্তার জন্যই প্রয়োজন। আমাদের সবারই উচিত সড়ক নিরাপত্তার বিষয়ে সচেতন হওয়া এবং তা মেনে চলা।
