The 2018 Melbourne Cup Carnival is almost here!
Australia’s greatest sporting event takes place at Flemington Racecourse from 3-10 November, and is set to attract over 300,000 people across all four race days.
Uber is excited to partner again with the Victoria Racing Club as the official rideshare partner of the Melbourne Cup Carnival for the next three years.
We expect roads to be busier than usual during Cup Week, so to ensure driver-partners and riders enjoy a smooth and reliable experience using the Uber app, there will be three dedicated Pickup and Dropoff Zones marked ‘Uber’, located around the racecourse for riders using the app.
Here’s your guide to the Melbourne Cup Carnival:
How to access the Uber pickup and dropoff zones
We’ll be directing riders to one of our three dedicated Uber Pickup and Dropoff Zones, located at the following areas:
- Rose Gate Uber Pickup and Dropoff Zones: Enter the venue via Smithfield Road and turn right in Stables Drive. Then, take a right into Gatehouse Drive and follow the signs.
- Hill Gate Uber Pickup and Dropoff Zones: Enter the venue via Langs Road, Gate 5 and follow the Uber signs.
- Elms Gate Uber Pickup and Dropoff Zones: Enter the venue via the Lynches Bridge entry gate from Smithfield Road and follow the Uber signs.
Step 1: Ensure you display your Uber sticker
The Pickup and Dropoff Zones marked ‘Uber’ are reserved for picking up and dropping off riders using the Uber app only, so you’ll need to display an Uber sticker on your vehicle to enter the Zones. Don’t have a sticker? Tap the button below to get one ahead of time.
Alternatively, you can head into the Port Melbourne Greenlight Hub to collect a sticker.
Step 2: Head to the Uber Pickup and Dropoff Zones
Check out the map below for directions to our three Uber Pickup and Dropoff Zones. Use the Zones on the 3rd, 6th, 8th and 10th of November for picking up riders from Flemington Racecourse.
You can access Flemington Racecourse from a few different directions.
If you’re coming from the North, we recommend going west on Lang Street and heading to Rose Gate.
If you’re coming from the East or the South, we recommend going west on Smithfield Road and heading to either Hill Gate or Elms Gate.
When you arrive at the Uber Pickup and Dropoff Zone, traffic controllers will direct you to a parking space.
There will also be road closures throughout the duration of the event.
Road access and closures
- City-bound section of Epsom Road (closed from Union Road to Ascot Vale Road) from 1pm-8pm approximately each day.
Step 3: Pick up your rider and head out
Once you arrive at the allocated bay, our team will direct riders from the Uber Pickup and Dropoff Zones to you. It’s important to have your Driver app open, as our team will need to verify trips and ensure you’re matched to the correct rider.

Things to consider:
- Ensure you have the latest Driver app on your phone. You can download this from the App Store or Google Play Store.
- Make sure you have your Uber Sticker displayed on your vehicle to access the Uber Pickup and Dropoff Zones.
- There will be strict traffic enforcement at the event, so make sure you only pick up and drop off your rider from the dedicated Uber Pickup and Dropoff Zones.
- For safety reasons, we recommend you avoid dropping riders off on the street. Instead, wait until you have safely reached a dedicated Uber Pickup and Dropoff Zones to complete the trip.
- We’ll be sending real time information and tips on pickups tips via SMS—so keep an eye out.
